    Tow Boat vs Sea tow

Which one of these companies is preferred? I have come to the conclusion that this is a must. Most of my fishing is done in the chesapeake bay MD. south to VA. and some inshore ocean fishing out of Ocean city MD. and Virginia Beach.

I feel it is, aside from who is in your area, who you have the best rapport' with. I work out of Wrightsville Beach, Harkers Island- Morehead City as well as Roanoke River, there is no Tow Boat US on the Roanoke River but Sea Tow is on near by Lake Gaston. I have the best Rapport' with Sea Tow in the areas that I fish out of, so I use Sea Tow. I feel that the choice is who you feel the most comfortable with, but is one of the best things you can do for your safety, very cheep insurance for what you get. Oh yes, one more thing, I could not get Tow Boat US to insure me with towing as I was charter for hire, Sea Tow would...

I know this might sound crazy but i subscribe to both services. When i started back into boating i was in cape may. i joined sea tow there. I moved the boat to Indian River DE and found Cape May was the closest sea tow. I have only needed tow service one time and i used sea tow. service was great and the captain (who is on this site) not only towed me in but got me into my slip with out even bumping a piling. (some of the best boat handling i have ever seen.) I know it could be viewed a wast to join both but at todays rates its less then the 30 gallons of fuel from the fuel dock. if i have a problem on my way back from the canyon i just want to get on the radio and find the closest tow boat.

I can only speak from my dealings with Sea Tow in Boston Harbor area. Have been a Sea Tow member for 12 years. Unfortunately I had a chronic problem with a newly installed engine and ran into a string of problems that I ended up being towed back to my slip over six times one season

Sea Tow always responed in a timely fashion and never whined about being being called at 4am or 12 midnight.

SEA TOW Don't leave the dock without it.

That gives me an idea for saving on fuel. Go out on my own power and use SeaTow back. All for just a years fee.

Depends who has more coverage in your area, mine has more ports with tow boat then sea tow, so I went with them. That should be your main deciding factor. Make sure you get unlimited towing with whoever you go with, otherwise a long tow will be big bucks. In my area Sea Tow is a pain, they will chase tow boat us down and try and haggle customers, I'm not out to be haggled, I just want a reputable guy helping me out, if he is going to try and create a bidding war on the water, that is just bad business in my mind, I just need a tow or jump, not to sit around 45 min until he moves so I can get help. I'm sure it is not like this everywhere, but the Sea Tow guys by me are nuts. Regardless, having coverage is a necessity in my mind, for the one time you may use it it will pay for itself. Do not let them convince you to get a smaller plan, unlimited is all I would consider.
