I wish I could fish every tournament out there. But unfortunately that is impossible. So I like to read and follow the results on the Internet. It’s pretty cool to see how your friends are fairing on the circuit. I think Admin here on Sportfishermen.com and The Big Rock Tournament in Morehead City, NC has the tournament coverage nailed. Their coverage tops any other that I have seen. MA 500 is getting close and WMO is way too inconsistent. But then the scale just slides right off the chart. There is no third place. There is just a constant battle for last.

If you are going to advertise that the coverage will be placed on the Internet, then please cover it totally. Don't give up after Day 1. Remember that advertising dollars are being spent to have the coverage be seen. But time and again I go to a site just to see Day 1's results in the middle of day 4.

I understand that tournaments are extremely labor intensive, especially during the event. Hire a company to cover the event! The tournament is making lots of money by selling advertising on the tournament coverage site. Spend a little of that money and hire a company that specializes in tournament coverage so organizers can concentrate on running the event.

The industry trade journals have all been writing about the power of internet advertising. Magazines and periodicals are losing ad pages faster then Dr. Phil is losing hair. Those monthly and bi-monthly magazines that have survived are all trying to launch their own state of the art Internet sites just to compete for ad dollars that are being funneled out of their product and into Internet sites. Today's rocky economy has marine companies cutting back on their ad budget for fear of a horrible immediate future. Now take a look at Sportfishing related Internet forums. These sites are growing exponentially. Viewership and participation is usually free and members are constantly purchasing from sponsors and constantly urging others to support site sponsors.

Tournament organizers should use the power of the Internet and put together a state of the art Internet tournament coverage presentation. Viewers will pay attention, watch and participate. No longer will your sponsor’s ads solely be seen by the weigh station attendees. It won’t be long before advertisers will want to be a part of your extravaganza and ad dollars will rise. Don’t miss the boat. Get your tournament coverage on the Internet.
