First off let me preface by saying I don't worship at the "W" alter. I think he did a lot of things right but there is plenty to go around that I didn't like.
1) Prior to 911 there was a little law that was put in place during the Clinton admin. that prevented the FBI and CIA from sharing information thanks to our friends in the ACLU.
2) Bush was not, and is not a drunk. It was hypothesized by the left that he would be running for the bottle at the first sign of adversity. That didn't happen. Just because he enjoyed his college years (like most of us did) he was labeled a drunk. If you ever plan on running for office as a conservative, make damn sure there are no photographs of you with a can of beer in your hand. If I'm not mistaken, Dick Cheney was supposed to have died of a heartattack within the first 90 days...of the first term.
3) I completely disagree with you that his administration was an inept failure. The left and their friends in the major media made a concerted effort to paint everything he did in the negative without so much as ever giving him credit for anything. The man and his staff had to fight a war on 2 foreign fronts as well as fight a war against the propaganda of the liberals spewed across every TV set in America. Remember the daily tallies of the war dead during Bush's administration? Well guess what. We're still at war and we haven't had a godda**! one since that dope smokin', coke snortin' jackass neo communist of a president we have now took office.
4) John McCain was an incredible soldier who served this nation and his fellow POW's well. My hat goes off to him for that. Unfortunately, he has mellowed his stance and sounds more and more like Rodney King on Capitol Hill every day..."Can't we all just get along". No we can't. There is a war of ideology that is ripping this country apart right now. And, if we still want a country that is worth fighting for, we need to grow some nuts and fight for it right here at home every bit as hard as our brave men and women are fighting overseas.
You can call Bush a coward all you want but history will take care of recording his place in the books. Remember in the 80's and 90's, Reagan was ridiculed by the left as the old geezer who had his hand on the red button, ready to blow up the world. We know that was a bunch of BS but that's what they spat out at us. Now, whenever Blowbama gets in front of the camera, they marvel at how he has the "same presence" on TV that Ronald Reagan had. He is the new "Great Communicator". Communicator my ghostly white fat ass. More like a lying sack of shiat.
