    Today, I met.........

A Man I have always wanted to meet. I remember being a little kid when the big fight happened. I didnt think I would ever be able to fall asleep. I wanted him to win soo bad. It was a dividing line between good and evil...........I was in 8th grade and it was the first question I asked when I woke. Who won? A hugh smile came across my face. All was right in the world.
I was in Ardmore, Pa today and I couldnt believe the face I saw. I was in 8th grade again with the same enthusiasm. I shook his hand a dozen times and he was as nice and gracious as could be. [I did beat him didnt I] was what he said after I babbled how glad I was to meet him. Yes you did........Your the champ! Forty years later and each of us got to re-live that moment. He was the champ, I was glad he won. Its a day I will never forget.
    Smokin Joe Frazier..........Your the champ

Those sure were different days. Ali was larger than life and Joe was the class act - I remember watching the fight on Wide World of Sports the next day..

    Why????,

Can't we have "athlete's" like that today? I saw Stevie Wonder in the Charlotte Airport, last fall while flying home after a delivery. Didn't get to meet him, but seeing him was great. No doubt a day you'll remember, Alex! Frank

Boxing was the most exciting sport there was back then. I remember my parants having huge parties to watch Frazier/ali
Sugar Ray Leonard in the olympics. Even watching the Cuban Teafilo Stevenson. Watching George Foreman get crushed. I was in the 8th grade I think when my older brother took me to the DC Armory to see Leonard/Duran 1 on closed circuit TV. We were the only two spanish people in Sugar Ray's Backyard. my brother wouldn't let me cheer for Duran until I couldn't take it and stood on my chair and starting yelling DURAN DURAN DURAN. It was a hoot. My brother thought we were both gonna die that night.

Thanks for taking me back Hubris.

BTW I started watching it a little more because of an up and comer out of Salisbury, MD named Fernando Guerrero. I went to his last two fights in Salisbury and they say his next one is his first big money bout. watch out for him.
