    tld 50 Repairs

Hey guys. Im looking at buying a used reel. I mayy be buying new as well. What i want to know before i buy the used reel is, how much does the service on these reels cost if i take it to a shop. Lets start from maybe the littlest thing to maybe a complete rebuild. Any ballpark costs would be great.

    Pwake,

I do reel repairs and I'm located in Pasadena, MD.

Alltackle does repairs also and they are in located in Annapolis and also in Ocean City, MD too. Check out their shops when you're in the area.

Generally, there is a flat fee for complete disassembly which includes complete cleaning and lube of the reel. Some shops will charge an additional fee or hourly rate for repairs, plus the additional costs of the new parts. I charge only a flat fee for the disassembly and clean/lube plus the cost of any parts that need replacement; no extra labor charges for replacing parts.

Typical costs for repairs are according to the type of reel. Spinning reels are usually in the $20+ range as are star drag reels. Lever drag reels are a bit higher, usually in the neighborhood of $40+/- .

Most parts range from less than a $1 to a few dollars, however don't be surprised at some of the costs of internal reel parts as they can be a bit "pricey". An example is say a Penn 114 star drag reel may need a set of new drag washers, 5 washers at $1.50ea; whereas a Penn International 30 may need a new drag washer which is $30+. Other expensive parts can be new bearings that may need replacement, which can range anywhere from $8 up to $20.

Hope this helps give you an idea of what to expect. Feel free to call me if you'd like any more details or if I can help you in any way.
