    Question TIPS & TRICK'S & RULES

What are some of your tips, tricks and rules. Weather, rigging, tactic, inshore offshore whatever

I figured with the amount of people looking for some simple things to help them out. Heck I have a lot more to learn....

One thing I figured out after a lot of aggravation, because I never fished much with them till the Chesapeake and I am not sure why this one comes 1st to my mind but...

eeling rockfish and they eee old pain in the arse eel ball - snell the hook it stops them from balling up when resetting.

We had some guests on the boat once that was fluent with rigging and I couldn't figure out why theirs keep balling up and mine didn't etc and then I learned this. Or maybe I had special eels

Place the eels in a bucket with those frozen blue things used for keeping food cold on the bottom. It puts the eels to sleep and they are easy to put on the hook. They wont ball up on you and will wake up when youput them in the water. If you use ice and they are directly on the ice they will drown when the ice melts.

If you take a 12" long 1" round piece of pvc tubing and put a !/8" slit all the way down one side. Add suction cups on it and stick it to the free board near your rod holder. Simply slide yor line through the slit in the pipe and pull youor eel into the pipe. I call it the straight jacket.

The straight jacket, I love it. I think I will be on my way to the plumbing store very soon.

    Thanks

Rockfish turn on with the moving current. Most of the time the eels ball up is on the slow or slack tide. I say cut the heads off. In the slow or slack tide work the eel back to the boat or bump troll over the shoal if you have to. You can not do that in a group of anchored boats in the valley. I never liked fishing in a crowd anyways. Try the drift or bump troll method. As the current picks up, increase the lead to keep the eel in the target zone. Pitch I do like the straight jacket tip.
