    Thousands of snook on Sanibel.

Clear water and massive numbers of snook are making for superb fly fishing along the Gulf of Mexico shoreline of Sanibel Island. The most successful flies are Schminnows, Blackback Deceivers, and green and white Deceivers.
Thousands of fish are cruising close in to the beaches and beginning the spawning season.
Friends and clients report catching many fish in the 20-26 inch range and landing big females up to 34 inches. Many bigger fish have been sighted.
This is close-in sight fishing that really can be done only with flies because the fish are so spooky in the clear water. Even weighted flies will spook them.
Evenings and early mornings also offer good numbers of specks, Spanish mackerel, ladyfish, jacks, and occasional pompano.
