    TARGET... TARGET STORES...

    Target
    Stores - What a surprise

Wasn't it last Christmas that Target

refused to let the Salvation Army ring their bells in front of their stores?

    Dick Forrey of the Vietnam

    Veterans Association wrote.

'Recently we asked the local TARGET store to be a proud

    sponsor of the Vietnam

    Veterans Memorial Wall during our

    spring recognition event.

    We received the following reply

    from the local TARGET management:

    'Veterans do

    not meet our

area of giving. We only donate to the arts, social action

groups, gay & lesbian causes, and education.'

So I'm thinking, if the Vietnam

    Veterans Memorial Wall and

veterans in general, do not meet their donation criteria,

then something is really wrong at this TARGET store.

    We were

not asking for thousands of dollars, not even hundreds, just

a small sponsorship for a memorial remembrance.

    As a follow-up, I, E-mailed the TARGET U.S.

    Corporate

Headquarters and their response was the same...

    That's their

    national policy!!!

    Then I looked into the

    company further..
    They will not allow

the Marines to collect for 'Toys for Tots'at any of their

stores. And during the recent Iraq

    deployment,they would

not allow families of employees who were called up for

active duty to continue their insurance coverage while

    they were on military service..

    Then as I dig further,

    TARGET
    is a French-owned corporation.

    Now, I'm thinking again..

If TARGET cannot support American (or Canadian) Veterans, then why should my

    family and I support their

stores by spending our hard earned American (or Canadian) dollars in their

    stores???
    And,
    have

    their profits sent to France

    .

    NYBH,

I have never been to a Target Store, but I'm sure my wife has. Being that she's a Veteran herself, I'm sure she won't see the humor either. I think any company that has these views oughta be ratted out and let John Q. Public decide. What a bunch of crap. French you say???? Well ............. Frank

I think this one is about as old as the internet. It was completely untrue when it started circulating.
Target did eventually decide that their no-solicitation policy could no longer have the Salvation Army as it's only exception. But they're still supporting them in other ways.

Also, they're not French owned, they do support veterans groups, they're not only donating to gay and lesbian causes etc. There's a number of links about most of what is contained in that e-mail:

While we should be careful about supporting any of China's USA outlets (Wal Mart in particular) we should also be careful about what we repeat.

BTW, speaking of Wal Mart here's a true gem about them putting donated toys back on the shelf:

I'm not trying to endorse snopes, but they're a convenient source for some of that stuff.

When that one started circulating I e-mailed Target directly, but I don't have a copy of their response anymore. So instead of rehashing it with them I just went to snopes. There's plenty of things for us to get P.O.'d about, i.e. the government, it's just not worth wasting effort in getting ourselves cranked up on something like this.
