Dolly came through here a lot stronger than we all thought it would. I thought it was going to come ashore as a tropical storm about 50 miles south of us down in Mexico, maybe even as far as San Fernando. Nope, that ***** roared through our harbor as a category 2 and tore the top off my slip and the three that border me. I keep my boat on a lift and had it all the way up and lashed it to the columns. The only damage I suffered was a piece of lumber fell on my stbd rigger and broke a stay. I can't believe it. Boats tied up in slips were in parking lots. Virtually every pier and fishing dock on the bay side of the island was destroyed. It was bad. 56 power poles were broken or laid over, and these aren't the little ones you see around. These have got to be three foot in diameter at the base and are 80 feet tall. We do not have power at South Padre Island and for that reason T.I.F.T. may be called off which we always hold the first week of August. Without power we can't pump fuel or even house our contestants. The decision to call it off will be made this Monday. The power companies are working around the clock but there is just a huge amount of damage. Harlingen was flooded badly and still has some deep spots two full days after the storm. My power was restored at home about an hour ago so all my fish has long since been pitched out of the fridge, my biggest regret of the storm.
The good news is our weather buoy is calling for 1-3 all next week and I am going back to Noble Clyde Boudreaux. When we get our power back, yall come on down here and spend some money to help us get back on our feet.
