STUCK IN REVERSE
This happened to me this summer.
Its common practice ro check reverse before entering a marina and I know to do that. 99% percent of the time I do that, but on this day I was late because fishing was terrible and it was almost dark. I was tired, wore out and discouraged. All the excuses I can think of. I just wanted to get off the boat and forget about the day. Well, that 1% of the time I didn't check reverse, IT STUCK, just as I'm backing in to the slip. This is a single diesel which pulls to the port when backing. So I clobbered two pilings and gouged the boat next to me before I could get her stopped. What a purty site. Thank God nobody got hurt! Seems the cable slipped out of the locking mechanism at the tranny. I now have it locked down with a wire tie. !3,000 Dollars of damage later.
Just thought I would pass this on to maybe keep someone from doing the same. I know stuff happens, but I think if I had checked reverse I could have kept this accident from happening!

Yep, your gonna need stitches
We had bad luck twice at the WMO on 2 different boats. One year we had the throttles lose resistance. Luckily the cappy was holding onto the throttles other wise, full speed back into the back of the slip. Last year we were on a brand spankin new viking and the electronic contols went haywire on the way out in the middle of the channel with the bridge closed and boats all lined up. Hit the bulkhead pretty hard but luckily not straight on. Shut her down, and then the controls had no problems. Assessed the damage and made the call to fish that day. That was crazy. Captain said hold on in a fairly calm voice just before we hit. Apparently the controls had been programmed wrong. The WMO just seems to bring out the demons in the boats for us.
