Stickers on the Hull

What's the best way to remove old stickers (registration, yearly fishing license, etc) from the hull? Should I try when it is cold and the sticker is brittle, or should I try and heat it/wait until it's warmer out? Don't want to damage the gelcoat under the sticker. Or, is it acceptable to just put the new sticker over the old one?

Hair Dryer, the gel coat will look better under the sticker.....

Hair dryer then Goo Gone, or WD40 if theres any residue left.

Yet another vote for hair dryer and WD40...I had some tough "WARNING" labels on my GSX-R cowlings and they came right off using this method.

Good one, "Go ahead, Bake my day." Actually up here in Taxychusetts, they like you to lap the new sticker over the old, showing an eighth inch to prove you had last terms sticker...

10 dollar heat gun from harbor frieght. wd-40 or goo gone for glue residue, followed by on/off hull cleaner. looks like they were never there.
