    Speeding Up My Computer

    Hello Again,

My computer is doing everything slowly, starting up, going online etc. Some of you guys helped me before suggest Mozilla and Advanced System Care, which has helped immensely. Also someone suggesting going somewhere and unchecking things that might be running in the background, could someone please tell me that location so I could do it again...and also what to uncheck and leave checked?

    Thanks,

    Bill

    Billy,
i restart mine every two days that helps..also with mozilla it gives you the option of clearing :cache-history-cookies, as for using alot of RAM at start-up, the icons on the bottom right show whats running..whatever your not using, right click and select close. also if your using a wireless router..once a week i shut it down for 3-5 min. then restart..for me and my 3 the above helps keep it speedy, also check your firewall..some settings slow stuff down.you dont need it at full-tilt-boogie..set it at medium with the alert setting activated,so if it detects a questionable site..it'll ask if you want to proceed.
i set my maintaince (defrag-disc cleanup) to run every two days at 2 AM..nice and fresh by 5AM.

    Well Billy,

You did it again! Mine has had a bad case of the "slow's" too. I guess rinsing it out with the hose won't work? Frank

def clear your cache. when using internet explorer, open up tools ->Internet Options->Browsing History->Delete Browsing History->Delete All, including cookies. i do this weekly, if not daily and it helps a lot. downside - you delete your cookies, you'll have to log back into all your trusted sites (like SFC) again, so write down logins and passwords. this should help.

you don't have to delete them all, just open up the file and delete the ones you don't want, this way you stay logged in to the sites you want to keep. takes a minute and helps with you speed

Some good advice above regarding clearing cache, here are a few more PC cleanup tips (for those that don't want to drop money on a Mac). I'm being slightly vague to cover XP, Vista and Windows 7. Go through your Programs>Accessories>System tools and run disk cleanup every two weeks. Check everything except office setup files and compress (NEVER COMPRESS!) and get rid of those temporary files. Go to http://www.download.com and download and install Spybot Search & Destroy, Malwarebytes and Superantispyware (not pro). They are all free. Be sure to immunize with Spybot. Update at least every two weeks and run full\complete scans, deleting everything they find. For those running Vista or 7 when launching these programs don't just left-click, instead right-click on their icons and run as administrator. Defragment your hard drive once a month as well. Also consider increasing your RAM as that is the cheapest and most beneficial boost you can give most computers.

For those in or near Delaware who need a hand with cleanup, security, malware\trojan\virus removal, wiring, network support, etc...that is what we do so feel free to get in touch. For everyone, hope the note above helps you run faster and cleaner!
