    spectra and mono talk

got a question about spectra and mono... it'd be easier if i drew out a scenario to explain my question..

    scenario-

man has 500 yards of 130# spectra topshotted with 100 yards of 80# mono his reel..

he drops the bait down only 80 yards..

a strong fish takes the bait and drag is on tight.. the fish is fighting an 80# mono.

but what if the bait was down 300 yards... what kind of power is the fish fighting against since both 80# mono and 130# spectra is in the water? is the fish fighting 80# mono AND 130# spectra? i have no idea what im talkin about but does anyone get the idea of what im tryin to ask?

Your drag is going to increase as the spool gets smaller. Your drag setting should be set for the lowest rated line that you are using. If you have 80lb main line and 400lb leader you would set your drag for the 80lb line. Roughly 1/3 to 1/4 depends on how new the line, the angler experienced or not, bill fishing in a tourney I tend to use almost no drag to keep the fish from jumping, these are all factors that I use when setting drag so I cant tell you what you should use, but most people us 1/3 of the lines breaking strength. As the fish takes line and the spool gets smaller you have to back your drag down.
