Hold on tight, can you imagine the ride. I won't judge a man...I would not have shot it even if it was a world record.

Wow!! That is a huge fish. Did he just hold on to the line? Did he have a float on the line. Even on a 80W that fish would be hard to get in. I guess that shot just killed the fish fast enough!

Now I know why marlin jump into boats and spear men!!!!

“conservationist” my ass. This guy seems like he took some pictures, cut the bill off and that was it.

Not to refute, but this fish probably didn't go to waste. I just came back from Mexico and they keep and eat everything down there including billfish. I've been told it's the same throughout central america, though I could be wrong. I don't think I would have popped it either, but we probably shouldn't draw and quarter the guy for it.

    Hypocrite?

I'm not sure how I feel about this one. When I first saw the video/reort I thought this guy was a total jerk and should be chastised. Then I started thinking about tournament fishing. If this was a qualifying fish during a money tourney I would certainly be planning on hanging it back at the scales. How would I feel if it were a legal fish and a potential world record or if the angler was a paying customer on a charter and wanted to keep his trophy?

After calming down and thinking about it I am not sure. My gut is that I still think it was wrong and that I am simply a hypocrite. It was some very cool video footage and probably quite an accomplishment for the guy. But like Mike Roni said – to call this guy a conservationist during the report seems very counter intuitive….
