This is going to sound like the dumbest tip ever, but it helped one of my sighted friends. After you do a good fillet job on one side, run your finger along as if it were the knife, getting the feel of it. Then run the knife along getting the feel of that. Repeat on the other side. Putting the two feelings together in your brain kind of lets you "see" what's going on. Then go out, catch a mess, and clean them, practice, practice, practice, then prctice some more!

go to a kitchen supply and buy the white handle single knives. They are about 9 dollars a piece. They hold an edge for cleaning many rock using the three, a large thick boning knife, and 2 7" fillet knives. A good sharpening steel will be needed, also available at the kitchen supply...good luck in 2008....flat

Thanks for the blade tip. I use a fiberglass-graphite mix not a bamboo pole!
