Sound Game Plan???
Insurance company has a clause to keep us north of a line in the Carolinas til Nov.1, I guess to avoid hurricane peak season. Thats all fine and dandy on paper but the reality is that four times this month we have been tenderized in our slip by winds over 30 knot and two of those time it touched 50! ![]() I'm looking at three or four more days of 30+ in our face in the very near future. Enter in the next issue is temperature. When the engines get cold (below58 degrees) they just don't want to play... Basically have to run em every day just to keep em warm... Now I can't leave just yet. We have new eisenglass enclosure comming late this week. After that though I have the boat ready to roll. It leaves me with a couple options... One would be wait til date that would get me to the line and just keep rolling at warp speed. This would ease up expenses of crew and dock... The second I'm leaning toward... I need two days to make Norfolk outside. Havn't seen back to back days for a month...I'm thinking of blowing out of here the next single. Sit in Ocean City til the next... Then begin a slow crawl down the ditch til I get down to the line and sit again. I hate spending the boss's bucks. I'd save on fuel but burn it back up in transient dockage and crew. I find option 2 more prudent and easier on the boat even if it means being stuck aboard for several extra days... What do you guys think??? |

Not sure where your Insurance line is, but if you push down to Pirate's Cove or Hatteras and fish a couple of days, you'd probably have a good shot at some prime YFT fishing...

I think the line is just above the SC border... I'm thinking of maybe setting up camp in Morehead... Good people there but no cable or showers where I have parked in the past... Fuel is very reasonable there too...
Not sure if fishing is in the cards. Not sure who I'm gonna have for crew or if I can even find someone who can take an undetermined amount of time off to get down. I'll have tackle enough to kill the Atlantic and even a bow if somebody insists that I get off the boat and rid them of nuisance bambies...

Frankie is dead on MHCYB has clean showers, Cable, and they just got a new Wireless Internet provider (Works well)
Easy walking distance to a fair number of restaurants, the best hardware store on the planet... The hoos should be chewing for a while longer and there have been some sails to boot... |

You want a crew... I will mate for ya if you berth in Mhc. Plenty of offshore action once this fan turns off. Whatever ya choose have a safe trip down!

If that is my one complaint about MHCYB the past few seasons is that my internet never worked in the slip, I had to go up to the laundry room- hopefully the new deal works for me. It truly is a great facility.

This should be easy but its complicated. Crew on this ride unties in morn ties up when we arrive. Washes soot off transom and squirts boat... Not a high skill requirement. I let them read the charts as back up to gps which has all the important waypoints already locked in.
We have people who want to ride just for the experience, meals and a plane ticket home. Thats all fine and dandy but scheduling when its up in the air like this is a bitch. Deep Deckhand wants too much per day. I'd like to flat rate but he doesn't want to play. That's fine and I understand. He has his jewelry business to look after. Kind of undecided what to do about crew. I've done the run solo a lot of times but thats not so safe... Open to ideas... |

Damn Deep if I didnt have to keep the kids (dogs) while the wife was out of town next week Id volunteer my services for nothing. Any other time wouldnt be a problem Id sit and wait till it was time to go. I need to get hours and that would probably put me over the top.
