Sorry Folk's,
Look's like you may be on your own! I just read on the "net" new's, that FEMA is running out of disaster relief money. Seem's that the Senate is shooting down a ruling by the House for more fund's. I don't pretend to know all the detail's, but the gist is the folk's that Isabelle just wiped out might as well be stuck on a desert island. I sure hope WE don't stop sending "foreign aid" to other country's. Wouldn't want the rest of the World to think we can't afford it!
Folk's down here can't get work done because the insurance adjuster's won't accept the damage done by the storm. It's a "was it the wind or the water" game down here. FEMA won't help people that are living in their flooded house's, if they are still in the house. New's Flash here FEMA!!!!! There aren't many "rental" property's in Pamlico County. There is no where else to go, other than the wood's or the marsh. The folk's on the Outer Bank's can tell you of all the bull crap they have had to go through, just to get back to their home's and businesses. Folk's on the Main Land couldn't even bring supply's by boat to those that needed it in Hatteras or Ocracoke. What a friggin' cruel joke this whole fiasco is becoming. Again Just My Opinion, Frank

If Ignorance is bliss, Why aren't more people happy?
Not to make light of the situation, but aren't there a bunch of trailers that FEMA paid for after Katrina that are supposed to be available?
Kinda surprises me that the media isn't showing pictures of people standing on their roof and all that mess...Matter of fact, the media ain't saying much of anything about the folks affected by Irene...

Thank's Fred,
I meant to say "Irene" not "Isabelle". Isabelle nearly wiped my mother's house out, guess that name has just stuck with me. The reason that the media hasn't made much out of what's going on down here may be, that they aren't all in the street chanting "where's Obama"! Like the media showed them chanting "where's Bush". These folk's down here have alway's been a pull together, non-complaining bunch of folk's. Maybe the "sqeaky wheel" does get the grease after all. People are living in tent's in places still, I am told. I can tell you that the mosquito's are as thick as you would want here, I can only imagine what they are like in the lower area's. I expect that if a few Congressional Member's had to spend a night or two down here in a tent, some grease would get spread around! Instead of peein' the money away on Country's that never will have any use for us (only our money). How about we save abit for time's like this?
Oh wait, they did have several million dollar's to spend before the forest fire around Stumpy Point. Seem's that the tree hugger's wouldn't let them just flood the area with water from the Sound, instead they paid crew's to pump "fresh" water on it with hoses for month's. So that some vegitation wouldn't die from the salt water. Oh wait another minute, all that land just got flooded by the very salt water they were worried about with Irene. Wonder how much it cost for the studie's to keep folk's off the beaches when the plover's are nesting. Yep, look's like the "situation's normal" around here. Frank

Not enough people on social programs?
You guys don't need the help like the folks in New Orleans did, or atleast that is how the "Rescue Team" sees it. Probably to many folks in the Outer Banks that actually work for a living and pay taxes. Why do you need help? All those FEMA trailers have been auctioned off for pennies on the dollar so don't consider that as an option. In fact those trailers were dangerous and caused ill harm on the folks that were forced to live in them temporarily, many folks filed law suits for the help they received. The systems in place are a joke, doesn't surprise me to hear what you mention. They'll probably send help for the Plover's before they do humans. Especially humans who aren't part of the Democratic Plantation. .02

Sorry i didnt respond to you yet, but just got home, and started vacation..but what you describe is exactly what i encountered going up there, adjusters coming in 20-35% lower than standard on repair..and i use the same estimating software they do....bottom line..those folks are getting SCREWED, i factored in about 15% profit, adjusters are about 5%, F that ,its not worth my time or gas for that. folks..get on the horn..e-mail--write letters..or bend over.never have i seen such a busload of BS in my life.

Inconsistency...
Gentlemen,
Firstly, let me say that here in Texas we experience hurricanes with great regularity and I don't mean to dump on anyone trying to get their affairs in order after one plows your towns under. I have the greatest empathy for you and I believe you justly deserve aid not only from the government, but also, from others.
I have personally donated to private relief funds in the past for such emergencies and during Katrina we took in a family, yes a black family, of three for about six weeks. So, I am completely in agreement that you guys need relief.
But I hasten to point out that taking relief and as the above thread indicates becoming indignant about the money drying up (due to a Republican effort, no less) is contradictory to your often spoken criticism of others who 'feed at the Federal trough" or "expect handouts" or "don't stand on their own" like so many of you seem to believe you do.
No citizen stands alone. All benefit from our society and from our government's many wealth redistribution or social welfare or civil defense and rebuilding efforts. Now it's your turn.
So, do please consider how you've complained about not getting your fair share of handouts when next you criticize others for doing the same. My hope is that you'll temper the bald-faced idiocy of some of your hypocrasy.

LF,
The only hyprocracy I see is the blending together of folk's that "need" help and those that "expect" help. Or in this case those that their very existence revolve's around "help". I pretty much figured that someone would make the case such as you have, so I get it. There is help coming from diaster relief group's that are church based, see a problem with that? Yes we here gave and continue to give when the need arises in other part's of the Country, just as you did by taking the family in. I just have a problem with "pay as you go" friends, around the World getting "relief" unfettered, while taxpaying citizen's (who are paying the bill) are getting nothing, except red tape.
By the way, why do you seemingly have to point out a person's race when you post up interaction with them? I see folk's as folk's, skin color is just on the surface. Once again I get your observation. I'll do my best to explain it to those living in tent's (I'm sure there are some black familie's), while the mosquito population is at the highest most can recall around here. There is no dishonor in helping a neighbor out, glad you had a multi-racial experience. Now you're an expert about one more thing. Frank

"Life is what you make it!"
Sorry to hear of the troubles you guys are having down there. I wasn't aware of any major issues down there, and the media is definitely keeping quiet on the damages everywhere. I know that many states endured sunstantial damages especially from flooding. Forutunatly for me, even with the tornados on the ground or soon to be on the ground warnings that were coming through 5 hours prior to the storm making it here. My area was not effected by anything other than a power outage. My yard looked worse last weekend after I had a bunch of tree work done, than after the storm. I wish everyone everywhere a speedy recovery from this and I hope the agencies step it up and take care of our people.

Longfisher - The inconsistency that bothers me is the media coverage. Bush was severely criticized for his "slow response" to Katrina and FEMA was bashed for not responding quickly to the issues in New Orleans... IMHO - both are accurate BUT - Where the hell is that same media when Iowa experiences record flooding? Where is that Media when Eastern NC gets pummeled by Irene? Where is that liberal media in Alabama following up on the tornadoes?
All 4 natural disasters affected large numbers of people - BUT why did the media choose to cover Katrina effects for months? Why is there no coverage of Irene now just weeks after?
