Son wrecked car (or, why I like big cars!)

On Christmas Day my son (just two weeks shy of 17) was driving himself and my youngest son (14) to see their mother when he wrecked on I-95. He was heading southbound and swerved to miss some road debris. He made the classic "beginner driver" mistake of over correcting and he lost control. He went through the cable fence in the median, hit the rear of a car heading northbound, went through another fence on the northbound side, across an access road and wound up in someone's driveway.

Thankfully, no one involved was injured. Had he lost control a few hundred yards earlier or later he would have been in the part of the interstate that has reasonably large trees filling the median. Also, traffic was very light. Needless to say, he has been very humble the last few days.

The cops and firemen on the scene both attribute their good health to the size of the car. I tend to agree.

    Obligatory pics.....

Wow, glad to see that they can stand on their own power!!! From the look's of what's left of the car ,it could have turned out very differently. Went through kinda the same thing with my oldest son, 2 bad wreck's. Thank God they are both OK, can get another car easy enough. Frank

Well, it WAS a nice Crown Vic.....

You just can't beat a big full-frame sled for safety. I don't care what the government says. It helps turn an "Oh $#it!" into "Hey, that was cool!"

I'm glad your kids are okay.

They were very lucky. Someone was looking after them. One of my children had a bad accident several years ago and survived with some injuries. The place that towed the car in was shocked that she survived the crash after flipping 6 times. I truly believe God was watching over her. You are right a larger vehicle is a plus for young drivers.

Glad neither of them were hurt. Now you know why most Police drive Crown Vics, cause they can't drive either, and the cars hold up well under impact.. Seriously glad all are OK.

I thank God that they are OK. Cars can be replaced, your kids can not. You and your kids are both blessed...hope you all have a very Happy New Year...

Both the Highway Patrol and one of the paramedics said the same thing. To travel as far as they did and hit the things they hit (two fences, another car, etc.) without injury was a "Christmas Miracle" (as one of the witnesses called it).

    I am very thankful!
