    Be proud

    Kevin

Congatulations on your son joining the Marines! I know you will worry at times. I also know you will be amazed at how much he will grow in a short time.

I retired from the Marine Corps 2 years ago this coming February, with 24 years of active service. I joined right out of high school and never regretted a minute of my time in the Corps. The Beruit Bombing happened while I was in boot camp as well as Grenada. I saw a little bit of everything that happened between then and now.

I'm sure he will do well. If you want to pm me I can give you more information as well as confirm or deny anthing he may have been told.

Tell your son Thank You for serving his country.

congrats to you, your family and your son. I go to MEPs the same day for my physical for the Army. I know the feeling your son is having. He probably has the same mind set as me, if we go to war we go to war just don't get shot first. It's part of the job. Be proud of your son. It was one of the best feelings in my life when my dad damn near choked up and said I'm proud of you buddy. Again congrats

Kevin, I know that this is going to be tuff on you and your wife. If this is something that he wants to do, give him all the support you can as he will need it. Also the 2 of you need to give him your blessings to go and do this.
It will be one of the tuffest things that he will ever do and in the long run, one of the best things he will ever do. Tell him to use the Core for all he can get out of it, for him to get all the education he can while he is in and to set his goals high, even think about OTS. As with a lot of guys that I know, he may even like it enough to be a lifer. I will keep him and the rest of our forces in my thoughts and prayers. Please tell him that I am proud to have him be a part of the Core and thank him for his service to our country...

Lee, Very kind of you. He will get our full and undivided support regardless.

Big Fish, Yep, that's one aspect of the reality. Sorry for the loss.

he can just as easily get hurt crossing the street, at least in the Corps he'll have a crapload of brothers and sisters that would rather die than see him hurt. The Marine Corps is the best thing that ever happened to me and made me into a responsible enough man to hook my wife and get me three great kids. I am sure you will never in your life have a prouder moment than when you see him march across that parade deck on Parris Island.

I don't even know him and I'm already proud of him. If it's something He think's He has to do, then Dad you know you gotta let do it. It's part of being a GOOD man, wanting to protect what's important to you. It's not for everyone , but God Bless the One's that have "the right stuff". If it weren't for them where would the rest of us be? Please keep us posted, and tell him We're Proud of Him.Frank,SeaPower

One of my best friends was killed in aghanistan last year. My pap came home from Vietnam with 17 holes in him. My uncle was shot three times and stabbed once in somolia or however the hell you spell it. I know it ain't a joke cause I've seen it it was just something my uncle said to me.

Sorry to hijack. Good luck to your son and family

    Knot,

Thank you for raising a son that was proud enough to make the decision to defend our country. While it may bring temporary heartache and fear, you and your son now have a lifetime of pride.

    Tim
