I raised one that was about 1/4 inch when I caught it in an oystershell while catching bait and lived for five years in my aquarium. It grew to about three and a half inches before it died. The one I had most recently, died day before yesterday and was full grown when caught and also was only about 3-3 1/2 inches.

Another thing. Don't knock the oystertoads till you've tried them. If you can get passed the appearance, the backstrip on them is quite tasty, kinda like a blowfish.

I'll take your word for it, don't ever plan on trying it, times are bad but not that bad yet! Kill n eat wifes cat first.

Don't know if it has a larger cousin, but we have caught these on the mussel beds in the Atlantic outside the Delaware Bay. When I first caught them I thought they were a stargazer or oyster toad, but my uncle always called them skilletfish.??? They were always about that size in the pic.
