I haven't had it done but have talked to many who have. Also have a friend who worked in blasting (sand, water, walnut shell, soda, etc) and he said soda blasting is the shit. Least destructive means, in act NOT destructive LOL.
Don't consider sand blasting, the wrong person will severely F*** up your hull!![]()
If you use Micron CSC you should not have to sand blast. Scrape off the loose stuff and repaint
Mickey
My buddy Brian had it done on his Carolina Classic. I'll see if I can get him to post up some details.
i sand blast-sand blasting gets a bad rap by guys that don't know what they're doing....
if the bottom is "f"'d up...blast it,followed by scuff sanding then dewaxing, followd by epoxy barrier coating-then if you're really smart,do it like this.....1 coat of cheap hard bottom paint-use a different color then your finish color-example-if you want a black bottom use blue paint here....after that use either micron csc or petit hydra coat-these are multiseason ablative paints, and they're both good stuff....put at least 3 coats of this on and you should get a season out of each coat-read that as when you see blue paint showing,it's time to repaint-you will never have that nasty build up of paint again....
here's a few pics of a boat i had blasted before repairing the glass on it-it had the same process i just described-you can see in the pics, the glass on the bottom is far from being damaged from the blasting process...
believe it or not,i had a customer's boat that the bottom paint was way too high up the boat, after the bottom was sand blasted,i sanded then wet sanded the gel cote, followed by buffing with rubbing compound and it appeared as new-that's a fact.....if sand blasting is done correctly it's not damaging at all !!!!
these pictures are pretty close up too-check the before and the after....how's the color match on the repair????![]()
Jawz you really do some nice work
Awesome work!
Jawz, very nice.
Fintage,
Do you know any guys in our area that do it? I've been looking for someone, but so far no luck!

For sand, the only guy I know of I wouldn't recommend LOL.
I'll see if I can get the info on the Soda guy.
