My daughter asked me yesterday which form of government was better, socialism or communism? I asked her why and she said because her teacher wanted them to provide an answer as to which one they thought was better. Keep in mind, my kid goes to a private Christian school and they were just teaching the kids about the other forms of government to get them thinking. I decided to mess with her teacher's head a little because in my mind, all that 5th graders need to know about socialism or communism can be described pretty succinctly. They both suck!
My answer to her to go back to her class was this...
"Sweetie, you have a choice, you can go live with a mass murderer or you can go live with a child molester. Which do you want?" She looked at me like I hit her over the head with a board and asked me why would she want to do either. They weren't good choices. "Exactly my dear."
She then asked me why I gave her those choices. I told her this is why.
The mass murderer is going to kill you, right?
Yes.
Communism kills the very economy that it professes to save and destroys every life that has to live under its oppression.
The child molester is going to lure you and pretend to be your friend so you will go along with him. Once you do, he will do harmful things to you but may not kill you. He might make you wish you were dead and do everything in your power to escape but he might not kill you. Just like a child molester, socialism lures people in with a false sense of fairness and equality. Once in place, it begins to harm and sometimes destroy all that it touches.
Her little light went on and then I proceeded to tell her all about Reaganomics and conservative capitalism. We had a wonderful discussion and she had lots of good questions. She finished by saying, It's a good thing we're Republicans. I got a little misty when she said that. Kids aren't stupid if you take time to give them a good education.
