Sneaking up on an Osprey!

Today we were out in our new kayak just tooling around near the mangroves when we came upon an osprey. Gringo already had the camera in his hand and we just kind of drifted closer.

The video doesn't do it justice but I think you'll get the idea. What a magnificent bird..!!

Cool Vid. You're right they are an awsome bird.
A couple of years ago there was a webcam in a nest here in Wilmington and for two years we got to watch streaming video of all activity in the nest.
It was the site to see the eggs hatching and then the young growing up and finally leaving the nest.

Sorry to say that thanks to development, the pair didn't return to the nest one year and I believe the tree may have been torn down.

It was pretty cool. I could see all the detail in his feathers and his head moving side to side and checking us out like... "Nuh uuuh.... (head shift)... you ain't comin' any closer... (head shift) Nuh uuuh..!!" And you can hear him talking to us as we get closer. We have a pair that lives near our house but I have never had this close of an encounter.

Actually it does, had one fly into my sliding glass door the other day!!!!!!

I think he might have been chasing a mouse in the wood pile.

have not seen some thing like that in a long time .
what is bad is when you are crabbing by the shore line and you donot see the bird and it let's out a loud squck and you end up over board
