    small craft advisory fishing tournament

We had an offshore tourny this weekend and bad weather.Small craft advisory, coastal flood warnings and 6 to 8 foot gulf chop.Only 2 or three boats in the offshore division registered at the captains meeting, yet the event was not delayed until next weekend.I did not feel the need to beat the boat up and stayed on the dock.A lot of time and money was spent by many people for this event. What is the reasoning for letting it continue in the nasty and dangerous conditions?

I hate when that happens seems like it would be better not only for the anglers but, the tourney as well to put it off and have a bigger and better turn out as far as pubiciticly goes sorry bout the spelling there lol. BTW what kind off tourney was it? We had one here about a week or two ago I was entered in it, but wasn't the best weather either I wound up having to work the first day of the tourney and opted out on the second day due to weather but it was inshore and offshore along with a serparate division for flounder gigging and king mackerial. The inshore division was agregate of Speckled trout, flounder, and redfish, and the offshore was the same with grouper, snapper, and triggerfish. Was for a good cause chairty kids so I really didn't mind my donation got a couple of really nice tee shirts out of it anyhow.

It was a bottomfish and billfish, also a inshore division for snook, redfish and trout. And a biggest fish overall category. This was also for a good charity cause,I am glad that the money went to the charity,I'm only a little miffed about what I think was a bad decision on the part of the commitee.I did get my shirts and bucket of stuff.

JD. WE HAVE 3-4 MEATFISH/BILLFISH 2 DAY TOURN A YEAR UP HERE IF YOU GET TO FISH 1 OUT OF 2 DAYS AND SOMETIMES 0 OUT OF 2 DAYS IT'S A FREAKIN MIRACLE MAN I'M NOT SCARED TO GO BUT I AIN'T STUPID EITHER THERE IS A POINT IT'S TIME TO THROW THE TOWEL IN WHEN IT'S 8-10 CATCHIN ANYTHING GET' MORE DIFFICULT ESPECIALLY A BLUE ONE. WE HAVE TRIED TO GET THESE TOURN. MOVED A DAY LATER OR POSTPONED UNTIL THE FOLLOWING WEEKEND BUT UNFORTUNATLY FISHING THE REAL REASON FOR BEING THERE TAKES A BACK SEAT TO THE POLITICS OF PARTIES AND EVENTS THAT ARE SCHEDULED IN THE TIME FRAME. HELL IF IWANT TO PARTY I WILL I WANT TO FISH BE COMPETITIVE WIN SOMETHING CATCH SOME SHIT. BUT WHEN YOU ARE DICTATED BY THE WEATHER AND YA AIN'T GOT A DANG 60-65 FOOTER YER BEHIND THE 8 BALL NOT THAT IT'S THAT MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE IT IS THOUGH AND I GOT A 46 FOOTER IT GIVES THEM THE FREEDOM TO GO WHERE THEY NEED TO WHEN THE REST OF THE FLEET CAN'T. IT REALLY SUCKS BECAUSE SHITTY FISHERMAN WITH BIG BOATS NOW ARE COMPETITIVE WHERE AS GOOD CAPTS. CAN'T MAKE IT TO WHERE THEY NEED TO BE. IT ALSO AS YOU SAID KILLS THE AMOUNT OF BOATS ENTERING INSTEAD OF 40-50 YA GET 15 SOME TOURNAMENT!

Exactly,I would have went but I did'nt want to not show respect for my bosses boat, put my crew in a potentially dangerous situation and be misserable for 2 days. You are so right on the politics issue.

I have a friend that I fish with who does late registration in every ttournament he fishes. Even though the fee is often higher the few times he opted not to go saved him more money than he lost. Small boats often can't shark fish etc when a 60 footer can

thats the reason with my small boat that I wont normally register until the night before. seems like around vb here the only way one will be cancelled is if there are gale warnings, and then Im not so sure about that.
