Groups sue EPA over lead ammo, tackle
WASHINGTON
Three environmental groups are suing the Environmental Protection Agency to try to force it to prevent lead poisoning of wildlife from spent ammunition and lost fishing tackle.
The lawsuit was filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Washington by the Center for Biological Diversity and two other groups. It comes after the EPA denied their petition to ban lead ammunition and tackle, which the groups say kills 10 million to 20 million birds and other animals a year by lead poisoning.
The EPA has said it does not have the legal authority to ban lead in ammunition. And the agency said that the groups did not demonstrate a ban for fishing tackle was necessary to protect against unreasonable risk of injury to health or the environment.

Of course they are suing!
That is the tiny-minded solution. So many ammunition makers are pushing lead-free ammo. Winchester, Remington, Fiocchi, International Cartridge, Barnes, Noster, Liberty, most if not all of the manufacturers have either come out with lead-free lines and a few even have entirely lead-free factories. So basically instead of putting their time and dollars to use in a progressive manner to promote those manufacturers and lines that are lead-free thus helping both progress toward a worthwhile goal and the economy by boosting those lines, advertising and trade they would rather whine and pump money into the legal system?
