With out a doubt, each one is different but you/ I get use to them. The drill of getting ready is so banged into my head, starting with getting the boats out of harms way and deciding how much I need to board up on the house. Anyway, as time passes, it will get "old hat" for you and they will be just another distant memory for you...
I believe you. We learned so much from Hanna that we made smarter decisions about Ike. Also, I have some idea of what to expect now - it's less of an unknown. That was kinda scary.

On the other hand, the last two days here have been spectacular. Glassy ocean, warm GENTLE breezes, full moon shimmering on the ocean, colorful sunsets... so quickly you're reminded of what you love about the place...

One of those photos from that link was of Haiti. It was an aerial of a town well-flooded inland.

Here are some photos I found of Grand Turk:

Wow, great pictures. One of the things that I noticed was all the tornado damage, you could see it in a bunch of pictures. I was surprised to see all of that.

The other thing that I noticed was the Quonset hut building that was flattened, that is suppose to be one of the most wind resistant building there is other than a dome. I assume that it was water damage that did that.

The thing about pictures I like is they tell us a story, just not the whole story. Thanks for all the links...

How can you tell it's tornado damage and are you talking about the TCI pics?

    La Gringa,

Where are all the trees. from those pics it looks like TCI is a arid set of islands. I was expecting something more jungly looking. Are they similar to the Bahamas?

There are servile pictures where you can see houses that are torn down and the houses on both sides are still standing. I also saw on that looked a tornado had just sat down as the house in front was standing, next in the line was slightly damaged and the one behind that was completely destroyed. After Bertha and Fran here, you could ride down the ICW and see where water spouts came ashore and mowed a path a 100 to 200' wide in the pines. In the South Caicos pictures there are a couple of good pictures of this...
When I get the time I will go abck abd find them for you...

A very sad situation for all of those effected by Ike.

The islands to the north, Pine Cay, North Caicos and Middle Caicos get more rain and are more jungly and dense. There is also more elevation there. Provo has some trees here and there and some variation in terrain but Grand Turk and South Caicos are very flat. So is Ambergris Cay where Capt John is and the vegetation is small and scruffy.
