SHARKIN' DEBATE......

was just wondering about a couple things regarding shark fishing. this debate is going to focus on hook baits. i know the usual stuff like macs and blues go on the hooks. and the usual chum bags get hooked on the transom.

now, getting further into a sharks head, understanding its eating habits and eating mis-identifications due to humans being bitten and injested, and not to mention the fact that they eat non-fish species such as seals, who's to say that the every day fresh fillet of chicken breast can't be used in order to entice a bite? i know it sounds crazy, but does it really, from what i've just mentioned? is it really out of line to say a shark, easing up a nice slick won't bite a hook lined with a nice piece of inexspensive chicken? or beaf for that matter?

i'm not trying to make a mockery of the common practices of today, but just trying to think outside the box on what to feed sharks in order to entice a bite. and is this method, if it works, more cost effective? has it even been tried? and why or why not?

and one more thing to think about when contiplating on your opinion. - why do billfish, tuna, or dolphin strike at plactics being drug behind a boat? they have nothing to do with meat.......unless they're rigged with a bally....understood.

have fun.......

It's a good question. I think the answer about the beef is that it is a mammal, and I think many tournaments ban the use of anything mammal (blood, steaks, yankees fans... ). As far as chicken, that isn't a mammal so I'm not sure what the ruling would be. The only problem I might see is that they aren't nice and oily like macks and blues, so the smell trail might not be there....I'm looking forward to hearing what the experts have to say on this...way to think different!

shoe, thanks. i'm mainly talking your every day sharking trip. not necessarily a tournament.

and this method would be inconjunction with a gould slick. in my mind, the shark's nose wouldbe lit up with chum scent and thus wouldn't care what's hanging out there in the water column. i guess the only drawback would be the fact that the chicken wouldn't smell like anything the shark is used to. but then again, neither are humans....and surf boards.

It would be really neat to see a cow out there! Imagine that one for a minute. Wonder if they would eat a chuck steak? j/j

Wonder what a cow would do at the side of the boat? That would be a true structal test, hey Mar can these hoof makes be buffed out??

there was a local guy that tried to chum shark with chicken,no joke, his budy owned a chicken farm which he got all types of parts to try,but ended up turning the sharks in the other direction, first tried a chicken slick with no luck then he got them to the boat with a normal mix fish chum, then tried to hand feed them with the chicken,he said the shark disappeared just as quick as they got there..True Story he thought he was going to be a millionair..
