shark got the last laugh (pics)

This happened about 80 miles out of Matagorda. We got a late start friday got to the rig about 6 or so we where going to tie up fill the box with snapper and whatever else decided to bite and at early the next morning go find some billfish. Well about 1hour before day break my buddys dad hooks a shark on a 2 hooked snapper rig. Two hook's in the shark one in the mouth and one in the gut well cap'n got the hook out of the mouth and had one to go. The shark was also hanging over board the man doesnt like them in his boat I dont know why. Well the shark decided to freak out and in the blink of an eye the old man was hooked with the shark still overboard you could imagine the death grip he had on the line now. And as calmly as you could order a cup of coffee looked at me and asked " will you find a pair of pliers"to cut the leader and free him from a potiential finger ripping. I cut the leader and a very happy shark swam away now the only problem at hand was the hook in his finger wich he DIDNT MIND AT ALL!!!He acted as if it wasnt there and wanted to go get some billfish. He suggested we cut it out but we had nothing big enough to cut the barb off, then he said he had a file we could use that to file the barb off,So he stuck his finger in a rod holder and me and my buddy took shifts at fileing the barb with no success. So it was voted to get him to the hospital being that the hook in his finger had just come out of that sharks mouth.

Thanks for fixing the picture so i could post it Jer.

You couldnt tell it hurt by looking at him we still stopped to troll around rigs when we got to them. He didnt want to quit fishing thats a fact. My buddy called a few hours later to see how things were going at the hospital and he said the nurses told him they would have to cut it out cause they didnt no what to use to cut the barb off. Being the amuseing smart *ss he can be, told them to go find a doctor and get the same tool they used to cut the space age metal rod they custamized to fit in his leg.

    Next time

Cut the loop or eye of the hook off....pull the rest out the the same way it went in, ie...follow the path of entry, and keep on fishing...

That's the reason for bolt cutters on my boat. Hard as hell to cut that hook with wire snips...Much less with a fresh finger on it! Bolt cutters would eliminate some of the extra agony. I cannot imagine letting a couple people file on it with a hand saw with the hook in finger. OUCH! Holwachagot
