    Shark Fishin' Tips... What's yours?

One of the things I do when setting up for Shark Fishing is make my own rigs.
I use a 12'-15' of cable (I only use Cable) with a offset hook.
Once I tag and release the shark the piece of leader left over usually is long enough to do a quick offshore twist, crimp a new hook on, rig a new bait and that rod is back in.

don't forget, good structure under you when you get naked and drink lots of miller light and cheat. I learned this recently on a TV show. Best tips come from the East Coast, specifically New Jersey

I find if you cut the spine of your catch in an iconspicuous place (like on the underside if the fish, behind the vent), it will gain a couple of inches and look more impressive when you hang it... LOL

Seriously though, CaptKevin, you use multistrand cable the whole way? I've always used single strand because I've heard that sharks can actually bite through the multi strand. Have you ever seen this happen?

shoe , when doing the haywire on single strand. What is an efficient number of wraps you use, lets say 12 wire. I have seen one wrap and a member pmd me and said that was crazy. What is your take on this. One wrap did hold for a 469 female mako. Were we lucky or efficient?

flatbottom- come on, don't be an immature punk and diss nj as a whole. i'm not even talking about olivia grace, i'm just talking about nj itself. just because of an incident with one boat from nj don't mean nj gets the boot. relax bro.

Flat- It's a good question, and I hope some other people weigh in on this. We usually do 5-6 of the tight barrel wraps, and then 6-8 of the longer wraps. I think that the most important thing about the haywire isn't necessarily the number of wraps, but that it's done correctly- especially on the longer wraps. In my experience, if the two aren't wrapped together but rather one is wrapped around the other, it will fail very easily no matter how many wraps you do.

mvp palisades- Being that it is your first post I want to first welcome you to the site, and I look forward to hearing your thoughts on fishing topics. Before you call out an upstanding member of this site like Flat, you should look around at the other posts here. We all love to fish, and we all do so with a sense of humor about each other and ourselves. It was a joke, nothing more. Now on to the thread, what is your opinion on numbers of wraps in haywire twists for sharking?

true true- im not trying to start anything. i did realize that it may have came out a little funny when i posted it, so i tried to post again with my shark rig setup. did it work? prob not but flatbottom, im not trying to get u into the boxing ring. i know it was a joke, so it's all good. off to sharking rigs......... i'm flying down to florida in 3 weeks to fort lauderdale. doing some drifting in the day and swordfishing overnight. the boat is going out for swordfishing overnight, but i actually want a shark more than a swordfish at this point. maybe i should drop my shark rig in the water and use everyone that's fishing for swordfish as decoy to attract the sharks? does that work?
