Conversation overheard on VHF Guard (UNICOM - emergency) frequency 121.5 MHz while flying from Europe to Dubai .

It is too good not to pass along..


The conversation went like this....

Iranian Air Defense Radar: 'Unknown aircraft you are in Iranian airspace. Identify yourself.'

US Aircraft: 'This is a United States aircraft. I am in Iraqi airspace.'

Iranian Air Defense Radar: 'You are in Iranian airspace. If you do not depart our airspace we will launch interceptor aircraft!'

US Aircraft: 'This is a United States Marine Corps FA-18 fighter......... "Send 'em up, I'll wait!"

Iranian Air Defense Radar: (no response .... total silence)

God bless our troops & God bless the U.S.A. !!!

...the same sort of stuff reported from the Bush era air patrols over the U.S.-British imposed no-fly zone in Iraq before that war started.

We all know how well that one's turning out (5,000 U.S. troops dead and between 60,000 and 100,000 seriously wounded).

It's best not to let low-level service personnel engage in senseless bravado and pick fights the country can't finish. I'll bet a week's pay the pilot was reprimanded by his CO and that his CO was reprimanded by his CO and that his CO....

Oh, I was taught the value of professionalism in fighting men and the practice of keeping your piehole shut when its unwise to keep it open while in the Marines; Vietnam era.

Frankly, it makes a good story, but sounds like internet B.S. I'd really doubt that a highly trained professional in command of a $35 million dollar aircraft would make such a statement where it could be recorded and used against him if he provoked an incident.

Sure sounds bad-@$$ though.
