Seat Belt's,

As much as I hate to wear them, especially mandated to wear em by the State. I have to say that they probably saved my son and his girlfriend yesterday afternoon. She was driving and a deer shot out in front of them. She swerved to miss the critter, next thing the car is rolling over and over across a ditch and into field (don't know how many times). They got cut and beat up pretty good, but lived to tell the story. The car is an absolute waste. Paramedic's and the Trooper said if they weren't strapped in they would have bought the farm, with little doubt. Spent last night in the ER with assesment's and CAT Scan's. Both kid's are home today, sore but seat belt believer's.
Make sure you beat it into your kid's head's, put them on before you crank the engine. I'm a slow learner, but even I get it now! Frank

Damn Frank, glad there Ok hope no serious bumps and bruises. Tell em next time just take the deer out. Although I know my wife would do the exact same thing, rather than hit some poor little animal. I dont get it either she loves venison.

Well - Glad to hear your son and his girlfriend are ok - if a little sore.

You may need to spend some more time in the woods with a pea shooter to protect the kids...

I hope everyone is OK.
first driving lesson I had was with my brother.
Words of wisdom.
If you have to hit something hit something that moves.
No trees, rocks. telephone poles or stone walls.
Hit the deer or even another car to avoid being in a position
where you cant win.

Glad to hear they are okay Frank. I lived a similar scenario with my daughter several years ago. she fell asleep and flipped a VW bug about 7 times corners to corners. If it hadn't been for the seat belts and 4 airbags she would not have survived. Like Nauti and Joe said it is better to hit the animal than to swerve to miss it. I will take my chances with the animal over a tree or another vehicle. In my business I get to see a lot of deer claims and only twice in the last 20 years have I seen a deer go through the windshield. Once the deer broke his neck on the roof and landed in my insureds lap in Chatham Co. The other one came thru a pickup and the deer landed in the bed of the truck. Both instances neither were hurt.

Frank-

Glad to hear all is well...sounds like they were very lucky.

I've worn seal belts religiously since 1983....... I was involved in an accident where I went through the front windshield up to my shoulders but did not get fully ejected......still pick glass out of my head and arms occasionally....

Buckle up......it works!

I never wore mine for many years, but now I'm in the habit of putting it on always, and not just to avoid the fine.
Seatbelts save lives.
Glad everyone is ok.

A friend of mine lost his 16 y.o. son in a rollover accident because he was ejected from the truck and it rolled over him. One of the worst funerals I ever went to.

I despise the government mandating it, but I've NEVER rode in the front seat without buckling up. Now I use them in the back seats too. Cheap insurance.

Frank, I'm glad everybody made it okay.
