Sea Soap?

Hey guys. When I'm mating on the Dolphin Cruise I get a basket full of By-catch stuff by the Shrimp Boats and have to show everyone what everything is and explain it to them. I get this stuff a lot called "sea soap" This is what I was taught by the other mates. I tried to look it up online and see what the purpose of it is. But I found no such luck. Is there another name for this "sea soap" stuff? Does anyone know what is it? I would think its some kind of coral. Not sure though. I got a picture of it that I found on the beach one day before I worked on the boat. It looked like a brain. haha

The Picture shows one that is really big. They come in all different sizes and designs.
