I used to write for Sportfishing and did seminars for Salt Water Sports man twice... I used to love writing for sportfishing because we were allowed to use a bit of color in what we wrote. Then they tightened up on the fore mat and made it more sterile. Less fun and so drab that I just lost ineterest.
As for SWS they at one time were the bees Knees in the world of fishing and writing but they drifted away from real stuff to one glorified advertisement after another. When I read I want real stuff. Every time I pick up a mag it seems that whatever boat they test run that has the biggest ad running is the "Best" they've ever seen...
For me being the snob I have become these forums give me the most bang for the buck. Good stories, real opinions, good pics... Who could ask for more. I knew a lot of the other writers and can say that many are just that ... Writers... A lot of them know less about fishing than I know about farming... Yet they are revered as some kind of Gods by many because they write for a magazine...
I agree with you when you say that these forums are the best when it comes to information. I just have trouble balancing the monitor on my knees will Im in the bathroom if you know what I mean. Just kidding, I appreciate the info and respect your knowledge. I like to pick up a magazine to read. I really like the local OCMD paper Coastal Fisherman and you can view it online, but its not the same as having the hardcopy in my hand. JMO. Thanks Deep.
