Sit down Shut up And fish
I always hate to hear of someone losing a pet that is so dear, but I applaud them for having the love and courage to make the tough decision you did. My thoughts go out to you.

Very sorry for your loss, tough day indeed.

Alan,
That sucks. I did see some English Setters for sale recently. You could join me and Ben, to be a part of the setter club, if Hunter needs a new buddy.
Regards,

Alan:
I am sorry to hear of your loss. I lost my black buddy last year. I will tell you that getting to that year mark of them being gone makes it a little easier. But I did well up again reading this thread.
Time will help your heart and it will also let you know when you are ready for another one.

Sorry to hear that my friend! I know 1st hand what you are going through because I had to put my first Brittany down this time last year. Just before my birthday!!
I got him around my birthday 7 years ago and consequently, had to end his life around it as well. I never thought I would cry the way I did, but it was very, very sad to have him die right there in my arms. (i'm actually getting all you know what as I write this)
Anyway, best to you in your sad times!!!!
Kevin

CHES IS RIGHT. TIME MAKES IT EASIER. I DID GET ANOTHER BRITTANY. A FEMALE THIS TIME. SHE'S THE MOST LOVABLE PART OF THE FAMILY. HER NAME IS ABBY AND SHE'S A KISSIN MACHINE!

A sadness all pet lovers eventually experience. My old springer/brit mix at 14 (what a hunter she was) and an old toy poodle (a loveable pain in the butt) Both in the last six months. Sorry for your loss.

For Danny and Merlin
Having to end any pet's life is tough, but euthanizing a hunting dog is exceedingly more difficult because he was more than a grocery consumer, he was you hunting buddy and partner in crime. As sportsmen, we all tell stories. Often these stories are punctuated with memories of the time "me and Bob" caught this fish or "Dave and I" shot those ducks, etc. If you think about it, for the hunting dog, he was there for ALL of those stories. Part of the family? Treated like humans? Best friend? You bet your boots!
3 Years ago I had to make the decision to end the life of my 7yr old German Shorthair and my 14yr Yellow Lab - within 9months of each other. It was the DECISION that I struggled with - Who am I to make this judgement? I struggled hard and prayed harder - until my prayers were answered with this: The dog was dependent on me to do this. He could not do it for himself - and from a quality of life stand point, when the time came - he was counting on me to make the hard but right decision. Hurts till this day - but knowing that help me through.
Hang in there, guy - and think of all the joy you brought each other.
