    S-Cal -> Baja - > Cabo - local advice needed

    My 20 Y.O. daughter who goes to school in Claremont has informed me that spring break is to be a road trip to Cabo w/ her girlfriends by car.

    How safe for 4 white american girls is that drive? Advice on making it or not making it appreciated?

    Saying no to a 20 Y.O. is next to impossible, especially from 3000 miles away. Is this a hill I need to die on?

    I hate to rain on your daughter's parade, but that drive from California is truly dangerous as hell, so dangerous that many grown men have stopped driving down there. The drug wars have spawned all kinds of roving bands of downright murderers and super bad asses. No way would I allow a daughter of mine to make that drive. Period! Fly or forget about it.

    Good luck.

    Larry,

    My experience is very limited with Cabo. But when I went down there this year with Carl C., we hired a van to take us from the airport to Cabo San Lucas, I remember looking at the "country side" between the airport and Cabo, that was scary enough for me, never mind the entire Baha Pennisula!!! Cabo itself was beautiful and definately worth the trip, but I'm with Fred (who has a lot more expierience with Cabo) BAD IDEA!!!

    with the low prices in package deals im sure, somehow , she will recieve an e-mail on the very reasonable packages available. also having a car in cabo is just not needed, everything is within walking distance. do a quick search on the dates needed, im sure you, i mean she will find something...dave

    I made the trip 4 years ago with 3 navy friends of mine we left from San Diego. The drive takes too long, and there is little to no support if something goes wrong. With the issues with cartels and other drug smugglers and the corruption in the area. There have even been incidents of the Mexican Army firing on US Border Patrol agents, while protecting smugglers. You are crazy to even think about letting 4 girls drive to Cabo.

    remember, one does not tell a 20 year old anything. Keep those cards and letters coming; I'm going to share this thread w/ her and let her make her own informed decision

    No, but one does yank the credit cards and other monetary support if one's daughter does not listen. Mexico is at risk of a "rapid and sudden collapse," according to a recent report from the U.S. Joint Forces Command. Fly to a resort area yes, drive-absolutely no way Jose.
