Yup, sucks every bit of oil out of the crankcase...I haven't seen a diesel boat without the intake shut offs though....even they are a little slow to take hold and shut it down though...as one guy said check them often, all the commercial guys I know shut the engine down every time with them to be sure they're working.
Diesel motors have a manual kill button or switch it is like a chimney flue damper that blocks off the intake and kills the motor.I guess they didnt train that Truck driver to pop the hood and pull the lever.It is scarey being near a large diesel doing 4000 or 5000 RPM getting ready to fly apart. My boat has shut offs on both motors and the Genset.
