Yo Cap, I've look at a lot of resumes. I'd recommend a few things.
First if using someone else's word file to start with go into File->properties (you'll need to expand the short list) and then change the name of the title/subject/author etc. This is important because when you mail the file, depending on the method you use, the info under "Title" will be the subject of the mail when you send it. You may miss that it say's "Joe's Resume", and when the recipient sees it, they'll have an email with subject "Joe's Resume" but it's really from Dave
The other thing is content. Tailor the resume to the job you are sending it for. The resume will be crisper, and shorter which is important. Don't do a generic resume. If I don't see the skills I'm looking for, it immediately goes to the bottom of the pile. If it's too long and lots of filler, ditto.
Also look for work on Craig's list. It is a very useful hiring tool. I've used it often. I've had 100x the succes using it versus using monster when hiring.
Good luck.
Ed
