Looking to move into a larger CC. Fishing out of NJ and need to the reach the big boys off shore: Currently have a 23 Regulator and considering Condender 27, or 31. Regulator 26 or 32. Also thinking of starting a Charter Business to off set the costs. I love to fish and love to see others enjoying the the catch. Any thoughts?
I agree what Jesus said BUT, I was in the same predicament last year. I was torn between a Reg and a Contender. I drove the 32 Reg and my thoughts were, nice ride but a heavy ass boat. Then I drove the 31 Contender, a much lighter boat and a much faster boat. Either boat in my opinion are fantastic but I prefer the Contender. Dont forget, add 3 feet to a contender size --- 31=33. If your in Cape May, if you wanna see what a 31 is like and how it rides, pm me, Ill be more than happy to take you on a little run.
Also in my opinion- the 32 reg and the 31 contender is the way to go instead of the 27 contender or 26 reg.

2. You're fishing in NJ not florida, which means long, rough runs offshore, having a fast boat that you can never go fast in is pretty frustrating. I know, I used to fish on a 30 Fountain.
3. Heavy is good.
Although as far as CC's go, they're both arguably the best. I like the open space on a contender, but I like the stoarge/amenities/fishboxes and ride in rough seas of a Regulator. 22 knots through 4-6's in a Regulator isn't bad and would probably be easier on any charter party you had aboard then 28-32 knots through the same seas in a Contender. I've only fished on the 25 Contender though. Like to see what LuckyLady has to say about this classic debate.
Under 30' buy a 26 Regulator.....over 30' buy a Contender 33T...much bigger and better preforming boat than a 32' Regulator...
I have owned a 23 Regulator and 26 Regulator, both good boats and I have run and fished a 32 Regulator, it is not there best running boat....I own 33T Contender and like the boat alot....if your charter fishing the 32 regulator has too small of a cockpit.....JMO...but i am usually right..
