    Regarding life and individual rights

    http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/...q0I_wD96K0A400

Current abortion rules hold harmless any health care provider who refuses to provide abortion or contraceptive services on moral or religious grounds.

The Obama administration is exploring language to change these rules to make it difficult to refuse to provide these services.

Remember in the last century, some states changed rules making the taking of undesirable lives a legal process. The insane, the feeble minded, or any group of people marked as undesirables were grist for the mills of the state.

The only barrier to total control by the state is the individual who stands his ground and says "I won't do that". THOSE RIGHTS MUST BE PROTECTED.

I saw a car with a young lady driving last year with 2 bumper sticker's. One was in favor of abortion "right's", Keep it Legal. The other said don't eat meat "animal's have right's too". Kind of sum's it up for me. This Country alone has aborted more CHILDREN, than the casualities of all war's combined!!! God Bless America???? Why???? Frank

I was just debating this with some friends last night. I think it's a womans right to decide what to do with her body, but this will go on forever no matter who's in office.

    Capt. John,

I agree 100 %, it's a woman's right to do what she want's with her body. Problem is she should have executed that right before she laid down and made that child in the first place. Men are just a responsible in the equation as the women. When you make a bad choice you may have to live with it. How is it the baby's fault, why should he/she have to pay the conciquences? Frank

This thread is about whether the state can force a person or institution to perform an act or service which that person/institution finds morally repugnant. This is not about abortion rights but whether a person/institution can be compelled to provide those services.

When the state can compel an individual to perform acts some deem immoral then any barbarity is possible. The great movie "Judgement at Nurenburg" with Spencer Tracy was about this very subject. The German law was codified to enable the state to carry out its vicious plans. After these laws were installed, the Judges and the Courts dutifully carried out the crimes. They were no longer crimes, they were the law.

An individual/institution should have a sayso in what he/it will or won't do particularly in an area involving moral judgement.

The lone citizen standing up for what is right is the last barrier against the juggernaut of the state.

THE STATE IS NOW SEEKING THE POWER TO COMPEL PEOPLE TO PERFORM ACTS SOME DEEM IMMORAL.

I am all for arguing just about anything but this is one topic I think we can avoid here because it gets way out of hand. Out of all the times Ive seen this argued Ive never seen anyone change their mind on this matter. I wont say wether I think the act is right or wrong, but I dont think the govt should have the power to tell anyone what they can or cannot do to their body, that includes suicide. At the same time I dont think the govt should be able to compell any physician to perform any operation or provide any service they dont want to. The govt just needs to stay the hell out of some things.

they will try to force the doctors to preform the abortions...the line will be drawn when they try to force the nurses to assist the doctors. Matter of fact this same issue takes place today. Many nurses I have talked with refuse the procedure. Their oath is to preserve life and assist doing so. This subject will hit a wall at high speed

down to what an individual person is willing to do. I just hope we preserve the right to follow our own moral compass.

Maybe we should throw religion up here too and then start taking shots at each other's Moms while we are at it.
