Until the grain is full, and you can't see the dimples of where the varnish is sinking into the grain, 150 grit for a couple coats, and then 220. Once the grain is full, you can shift up to 400 and then 600. The key once the grain is full, is just to rough the gloss so that the next coat will stick. The first couple coats, thin 25% with whatever it tells you on the can, latter coats can be thinned 10% to help the brush marks disappear. If you're spraying just cut it enough to get it through the gun. Be sure you bleach out and neutralize any water stains or blemishes before you start as they contain acids that will eat and deteriorate your finish from the bottom...

    Good Luck,

    Bill

If you're gonna go thru that kind of effort, you should be putting Awlgrip on that chair.

The best part of the Awlgrip process is the fact that you can buff it when you're done.

No excuse for not having a mirror finish.

You can get the new style white vinyl arm rests from Release. It is not on their web site, but call and they will take care of you. About 180 dollars for the pair with detailed instructions on how to apply the new style.....Good luck
