I'm getting a torium 30. I've ordered it already just waiting on the UPS man. Nice looking reel that Avet. I used to fix with 6 - 6/0's and one 9/0 for the wwtfb. Handled everythihng we caught. Biggest being a bigeye at 212 lbs. NEver targeted marlin always just focused on the tuners. I have a fair mix of Penn and Shimano reels. More Avet stuff please!!! Holwachagot thaks for the input.

Check out my report of fishing with Barta on the offshore forum. All of those fish were caught with the 4/0 wide version Avets. 30lb line. With proper boat handling we had no problem landing all of these fish. I fought a bigeye or giant BFT for quite a while and the reel handled it without a problem. The initial run took almost 3/4 of the spool and we got it to the wind on a few times wihtout a problem.

You'll be better off with the light tackle for 40-60 class fish. More sporting, easier to handle for stand up, MADE IN THE USA, VERY SMOOTH.

The one thing that you'll have to get used to is the clickers turn off when you crank the reel so you've gotta get used to turning it back on when you get everything set.

Tred has landed quite a few huge fish on light tackle and I'd say he wouldn't go with Avet if they couldn't handle what's out there.

BYRD...I FISH ALL PENN PRODUCTS ON MY BOAT. LIKE MANY OTHER FISHERMEN YOU GET TO LIKE AND DEPEND ON A CERTIN PRODUCT. I ALSO KEEP MY REELS IN TOP SHAPE WITH A SERVICE BY A PENN DEALER EACH YEAR. HOWEVER MOST OF THESE GUYS HERE HAVE BEEN FISHING MUCH LONGER THAN I, AND THEY HAVE ADVICE I COULD NEVER OFFER. WHEN I STARTED BUYING MY REELS "PENN" WAS A TRUSTED NAME IN BIG GAME FISHING. NOW THERE ARE MANY TOP QUALITY REELS. FISH WITH SOME OF YOUR FRIENDS THAT HAVE VARRING REELS, TRY THEM OUT FIND THE SMOOTHNESS IN THE REELS. THE NEXT THING YOU KNOW YOU'LL HAVE A COMBO ON YOUR BOAT THAT FITS YOU. THE 4 50'S AND 2 30'S IS A NICE COMBO. BUT IF YOUR MOSTLY INSHORE YOU MIGHT FIND THAT THE 30'S ARE BETTER SUTIED FOR YOUR NEEDS...TOM

Thanks for all the input. Once again this board shows why it is the best place on Earth. Thanks again.
