Recreational Fishing industry on brink of Collapse???

Ok, With fuel prices on many threads pointing to the hardships of affording gas for the car, disposable income going down as a result, the perception that the boat market is slow I think is a fair comment, the new boat market is in question except for exports, and if people simply can't afford fuel, whats to happen? This administration has to step in and tell the Saudi's, we saved your buts back in the Gulf war, now this is what we get in return.

I don't blame the Arab nation as much as I blame the investors. Those guys who invest in oil futures, just keep driving the price up so they can keep getting more and more dividends.

Yeah, you're exactly right. Demand is DOWN, yet the prices rise b/c of the futures market.

this is an american problem not a saudi problem. wall street is driving this. tell king fahad to step up and im sure he will laugh at us. WE as americans are driving the price. all they do is pump it. anyone in the administration that would go there and say that would only show how dumb he is.

The concerns are real but I too think this problem is more with the market, than it is true supply and demand. The fact that the Saudi's recently said oil should be around $85, shows how extreme the problem is. I suspect they are driving part of the problem but the bigger issue is the dollar and this commodity investment bubble that I am hopeful will burst.

I do think we need to stay away from propagating the fear. I believe that the fear of recession is one the biggest causes of a recession. The fear that oil prices are going higher drives people to bid up futures. It's all self fulfilling.

I don't see an industry collapse but if enough people say it, and others believe it, it could happen. With or without any real cause. i.e a potential buyer might not buy if someone tells them the industry is about to collapse. So I'd rather not even see statements like this unless most of the majors are already filing for bankruptcy and it's happening. It seems like the boat shows are seeing a decent turn out and there's a lot of people here that aren't getting out anytime soon.

    A true voice of reason....

I don't know ANYONE in my travels or industry that is experiencing the recession, however they all say we must be in one because the TV says so.

Mortgage Brokers!!!! $500,000 mortgage for only $475 per month..... Sound familiar?
Is something wrong with that above equation?

Now we get to bail the idiots out who borrowed more money then they could pay back and blame the price of gas on their problems....

Drilling in Anwar isn't the answer either...it's a darn good idea to become more independent, but it's not the solution to today's problem...the inflated price of gas!

Having oil as a commodity on the NYSE is a horrible idea! These speculators are who is killing us. Get oil off the US commodities market and things would settle down. Oil should be in the $70-$80/barrel range according to the Saudis...remember them...the ones some say are causing the problems.
