Total BS. Look at the phone number on the crane. There have been big bull sharks caught in the bay. A friend of mine showed me a picture about 20 years ago of a big shark that came up and ate a sea trout they were reeling in off of of Point Lookout. I didnt know much about sharks back then but it was way over 6 feet long. Wish I could see that pic again so I could try to identify what kind of shark it was.
About 6 years ago we saw a big Mako free jumping 5 miles off the beach in OC. We stopped and started a slick and tried to lure it in but we never saw it again. Makes me wonder if the 25-40 mile runs in June are necessary?
The sharks you can expect to encounter in the Chesapeake are: Sandbar, Sand Tiger, Dusky. Rarely you may see: lemon, bull, hammerhead. Is it possible for a Great white to come in, yes, but doubtful.
That shark is a Mako. The story is embellished in snopes even. Towed the boat backwards? Not likely. Probably backed down on the fish and caused the water to come over.
There are Makos within 5 miles of the beach but if you want the big mamas...like in the picture. 1000 fathoms plus is your answer.
A white shark was caught in the bay a few years back in a gill net.The skipper said if he knew all the hell and red tape he was going to have to go through after he reported it he would have cut him out of the net and kept quiet about it,pic on the wall of a local resturant about it.
