Middle Finger Rant / Temper Tantrum - Fishing Is Cooler Than Weddings

I know I'm new around here, but I need to bi*%$ a little. I hope I'm not overstepping any newbie boundaries and apologize if I am.

My wife's cousin is getting married this Sunday. I live in DE, the wedding is in Boston. I've known about it for a while, and was "ok" with it, but now I've got an option on an overnighter with one of my best friends from college who I don't get to see much in the Hudson. We would be getting back to the dock around 12 or 1 Sunday, and the wedding is at 5. Figure in boat cleanup time and the usual, and then the drive to Mass, checking into the hotel and showing up at the wedding downstairs with good clothes on and smelling of sweet, sweet tuna blood, and I'm basically missing pulling the two off by a matter of hours. I in no way, want any part of the trip altered for my purposes. I would honestly rather not go if that was the case.

Hudson is kinda going off... (adds to plot)

    NOW...

Wifey is hinting that she would like me to take Tuesday off so we can spend the day in Mass and drive home Tuesday.

It's not enough that I'm passing on the trip, and going on as planned, she wants more...

I DON'T WANT TO WASTE A VACATION DAY SITTING IN THE F*&$%!&$ TRUCK.

Deer (archery) opens Sat, Dove, Resident Goose, and then there's the chance to stick a big steel hook in a fish's head - multiple times. This is the time of year when Sh$% is happening. But I'm supposed to spend a precious day driving???

I kinda just got done a text messaging war and told her if she keeps it up, she'll be at the F*&$%!&$ wedding alone.

It's not like we don't do stuff she wants to do, there's always some family event I'm going to, and I usually don't mind. Also, I'm not some pivotal member of the family here, I think they'll get over not seeing me. I just spent a week with 21 of them three weeks ago, and I'll give them an extra hundred or whatever for the meal I won't eat. But enough is enough.

I don't know what the F*&# to do. One idea I have is to not drink a drop at the wedding, wake up call at 3:30/4:00 Monday, coffee, morning poop, shower and on the road by 4:45 - South bound with the hammer down! (except for the G.W. - where we'll sit for about 2 hours and then the Jersey turnike: where lanes merge and then again around exit 7. -where we'll also sit for about an hour!) She can sit in the truck hung over and miserable while I get my race on. Nothing like a little Pantera at 6am! - on repeat. NO SLEEP FOR YOU!!!

Or, I just go fishing and sorry about her luck.
    Or, "YES DEAR"

I need to drink beer to ponder over this carefully. Thanks for your time.

P.S. please give me wisdom - especially if it's, "Sorry about her luck"

    Thanks,
    Kevin

Most wives don't understand fishing or what its all about so no point in reasoning or trying to talk her into you saying go ahead honey go drink beers and have fun in the Hudson. Thankfully, mine gave up, got tired of fighting over the same thing all summer and I got 3.5 months of the year out of her for situations just like this. We have what is called an 'understanding' she doesnt like it but the other months of the year I worry about all the things on the honey doo list, the painting of rooms, landscaping etc etc. Tuna and Marlin time is no time for that...yeah Ok i'll stay home to cut the grass...LOL the neighbors have no problem with the longer grass and the kid up the street will take the 15$ to cut my lawn. I have a christening and b-day party next weekend..I'll be out overnight, shes going and Im sending a nice gift. She gave up on me for offshore fishing season. Things have been so much better since! At least for me. If something is important I'll be there though, and make sure things are taken care of for the day or two Im unreachable. Best friends and family are all close by in case of an emergency and they also get fed plenty of fresh fish.

In your situation...it may be time to bite the bullet and start apologizing for being a selfish a**hole. Try not to smile as you walk out the door to go fishing. Go fishing, send a nice gift (make sure there is plenty to cover both your plates and then some) and send her to the spa or take her somewhere nice this winter. Its gonna cost you but they all get over it if you bribe them enough haha. Every wife has a price ! Why even bother showing up, you're already going to be in the sh*thouse and by the time you get there you will be wiped. Although there is nothing worse then being out in the promised land and having to hear we have to be back early for someone to make a dinner etc...the only one allowed to pull that is the captain or boat owner. All others should only be allowed on the boat if they agree to a "we get back when we get back policy"

Good luck...have fun with the tongue lashing you're gonna get and lotion up your friendly hand

Bad weather always makes the decision easy and may save you some dough !

I hope your old lady understands that fishing comes before weddings. If you don't go fishing I can already here the ballbusting from Paul.

I'm generally willing to talk smack w/ the best of'em when it comes to how I keep my woman in line. Which we all know is BS.
BUT, in a situation like you're faced with (opening day for dove & deer, and good fishing) she knows not to ask me for chit! She also knows that I'll be demanding some good luck lovin' before a weekend like that!
I'll be in the stand before light, come home for lunch, then to the dove field. Creep back to the stand for the evening hunt. Up early sunday, and fish all day!

For her to expect anything else is just selfish on her part.
    Never, EVER miss opening day!
Let me know if you want me to call her and try to talk some sense into her!

OK Kevin you can flip flop the roles a liitle. If the wife knows you like she should, it is her fault that she signed up both of you to go to the wedding on opening day. You may be willing to give up the good luck lovin, but opening day is once a year. I would not want to be in your shoes because the lovin may be few and far between if you get your way. My philosophy is that training of the women is part of the screening process when you are dating. My wife understands and I can get away with quite a bit. She knows she has an open invite to go on the boat and go fishn' and if she does not take advantage of it shame on her but don't come cryin to me when I am not home. You have a tough one here bro, good luck.

Man, I hate to beat you up here but you screwed up when you said you were ok with it for awhile. My game plan has always been no weddings between April and January, you have got to learn to cover your arse. The Hudson has been hot but I hear it dropped off a bit plus its gonna blow. I hate to say it but make some points and go to the wedding and stay till tuesday. It could pay some big dividends.

Even if the fishing was poor and I decided to lay around the house all sunday, I'm not missing opening day.
