I value everything that everyone has said greatly. I plan on putting in some heavy studying this week. Thanks again guys!
What you are noticing is the result of stress. Your father is the bread winner and undoubtedly faces market issues beyond his control that coould cost him income or bonus or whatever. It's the things beyond your control that cause the most stress.

You on the other hand don't face these income issues at the moment. All of that is born by your father. He's removed that burden so that you can focus on what's important, which should be your education and getting good grades. Instead he sees you slacking and focused on fishing. He knows that if you don't get a good education, your career options will be much more limited.

Just remember that any charter fishing operation is dependent on the discretionary income and spending of their clients. If income is tight, consumers choose to pull back on spending, which is why it's called discretionary. First things to get hit by this are the nice to have, fun to do things, like owning boats or booking fishing charters. You could be the best damn charter captain in the world and have no control over the willingness of consumers to spend money on you. Talk about stress. Heck we've seen a captain here on these board driven to drinking and making angry posts because his charter business dried up in this economy. That's what stress will do to some. Do you want that fate, or do you want to be in control of your destiny? A higher education will give you more options and thus put you more in control of your destiny.

So alter the fishing vs the books equation to emphasize the books. Fishing will always be there, you only have one shot in life to get a good education.
