Quick Prayer for A Stranger Please...
Todays group cancelled their trip due to horrendous seas. I thought quick and offered it up to the guys who did fish the rough stuff with me this week. They accepted and I drove to the marina.
I was busy rigging bally hoo in the parking lot and looking for them to arrive. I glance up the side of the building to see if I could see them. Not yet. I did see where a crew was working replacing the siding of the storage building that had been wrecked by our hurricanes of the last couple years.
Suddenly there was a blinding flash followed by a howitzer level "KABOOM"! A second one followed almost intantaneously. I knew something was wrong but the ol microprocessor in my head was slow to react. I looked farther left to see the stores lights were out. I looked back toward the blast and could see people running to the spot. I got hoofing my way that direction too.
I could see a hydraulic lift comming down from where they had been working on a building. At its end was a broad iron work basket and a man down on its floor.
I arrived to see the man convulsing and spitting foamy blood. I could see the skin burnt off his arm and knew electrocution was the culprit. He had swallowed his tongue so I had to clear his airway. It was not good. I started cpr and the little migant mans heart responded with a beat! His breathing indicated a blown up lung at least in part but some breathing was better than nothing.
He started to come to and was trying violently to get up. It took several of us to keep him calm. Language was a problem but fortunately we found a translator to try and keep him from further injury. Paramedics arrived quick and went to do an EKG. The skin was burnt off his chest too but the reading was fairly good on the strip. The trauma hawk was called to take him to the appropriate burn and electrocution center.
As they carted the little man away. I could help but feel for his family. It gives a different view of our illegal migrants when you look at them as people instead of just "illegal migrants". He was conscious but I would say in pretty poor shape as the chopper lifted off.
I witnessed an accident earlier this year where the grim reaper had won. I'm saying a prayer and asking for a little help to see if maybe we can keep this fellow out of his hands...

Was just back at the marina and no update on his condition. All the workers from his construction / welding company have vanished including the lift operator... Guys in suits all over the place... OSHA, the power company, cops, attorneys, marina owners... This looks from that angle like this is gonna be a lot of paperwork for a lot of people...
Migrant workers don't usually have good insurance if any. I know just a Trauma Hawk transport is like $10,000. ER admitting fees run a couple grand as do doctor fees in the ER. Then ICU must be a fortune... Sad...

Prayers Sent !!
He may be an illegal or migrant worker, but at least he is a WORKER and not someone mooching off welfare and our tax dollars. These people work hard to support thier families too! I hope he is ok!!
I'm sure that OSHA and the attorneys will have a field day with this one.
