The best thing to do Deep is call the CO of the unit they are from. If you are US Documented, they'll do as they are ordered. They more than likely had "intel" for the area, doesn't mean it was "good intel". They did what they did for a reason, the guy's that did the boarding may not have known themselve's what the "intel" was ,just what to look for. Best thing is to call the CO tell him what happened, don't make too much of a fuss (it won't help), just talk with him. I have had many incedent's that went WAY further than your's, but I had my order's. Again if you are US Documented (year's back anyway), they pretty much have "cart blanche", we my not like it but that's the way it is. Your guilty till proven innocent. I'm not sure how it is with them under HomeLand Security, but I expect it's worse now than it was back in the day. Sorry, Frank

No fun intended...you will simply be told by a very polite Coastie, if you decide you'd like to seek some compensation..." Sir, you may go by Station and fill out a damage report if you like."

Of course when you do...you'll be boarded every single time they have nothing else to do.....word to the wise...consider it an opportunity to clean and reorganize your drawers and move on........

After the talk they get from my buddy I don't think that will be an issue...

The form would cost me more in printer ink than its worth... But he was telling me that they pay litterally thousands of claims a year...

    Go for it,

Nothin' like having a lawyer rattle their cage. Then the boat's name and home port go onto the "Positive Hit" list (yes there is such a thing). Yes sir I'd like to be boarded every time I left the dock! You' re pushing mud up hill. You or no one else is going to intimidate them. Get used to the fact that when you get underway, you leave your "right's" at the dock. Just the way it is. Frank

Oh trust me no misinformation there... He should know, he was in charge of that department for years. Now he's at the other end... Like I said and as some have pointed out. Not worth it. I have a hunch that this boat will never be pulled over again but not gonna push it...
These weren't the usual 18 year old green horn snot nosed brats these were the A Team guys with seniority...

we have been boarded a bunch ..

after all take a 28' bertram and stick a set of outboards on her and then have enough room to carry a ton of weed... Hahahahaha.. yes they know me now but at first I was getting pulled all the time! One way to look at it is they are keeping you safe.. especially with all the boats being stolen from the islands right now. sucks that you had to re-organize your drawers but thats life.. and now days they always want you to keep moving while they board. It's just battle scars if you get a scratch .. I don't think making waves is the right thing to do though. I had a guy <~~ kid 22 old'ish..) try to board off fowey and get hung up in the riggers .. how he didn't do a splash down is still way beyond me.. was funny though. most times it is over in 10 minutes anyway.. glad to see them out there actually. In my opinion that is.

Yeah Deep I wouldnt make to big a stink about it. I would call and voice my opinion about the mess, Tell them how much you appreciate everything they do and that your glad their there, but ask why do they have to dump everything all over the deck. Not only do you have to clean it up but it creates a safety hazard as well. As far as those where its a constant issue you can always mount cameras on the boat. We had a few over zealous Fish and Boat officers on Lake Erie that had a tendency to over step their boundaries, a fed up boater from the neighboring marina had a tape delivered to the regional director as well as a threat to take the tape to the media if changes didnt happen put an end to that real fast. One thing big brother doesnt like is their disregard for the public put out for the world to see.

Yup, I imagine if you have a boat called Reefer Madness, you might expect to get pulled over a time or two.......
