Wow Capin, need a mate. Most of are trips are overnighters= Cutting up 5 or 6 flats of butty fish. plus i gotta rig da hoos for trolln the next day, get da ice, help all the guys get there 100 or more coolers on board with more beer and food then a wedding could drink/eat. Then i gotta stay up all night chunkn, then troll, then clean the boat when we get in, and yes usually we have at least 1 or 2 silent chunkers

BUT STRAIT UP, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE EVERY SECOND OF IT, FROM RIGGN TO CLEANIN I JUST LOVE IT!!!!!
I always get tipped directly from the clients, my capn asks me then, how much they give ya? if it way short then he helps me out

Here it is from a captains point of view... A gratuity is just that. It is a token of ones appreciation for the service rendered by another... Some people look at a guy like me and figure I built in enough pad on my rate to cover everything. Well its not that way at all. In a very competitive market you have to price trips at what the market will bare. Too high and you sit at the dock. I get called a whore sometimes cause my rates are low. They are for a couple reasons. Yes because I don't want to sit at the dock but also because I want to provide top shelf fishing at a price that the working man can afford instead of being relegated to standing shoulder tio shoulder on some cattle car party boat. (not that there is anything wrong with that).
Do the math and you can see that I don't have much wiggle room at all. Still I never ask for a tip... That is the passengers option. Not a requirement. I will bust my stones and bend over backwards to produce. I clean the fish. Have for the last 35 years and will until I'm old. Day's not done til that is done...
When it comes to my mate, that I use for island trips and for tournaments, I hope people have the common sense to tip him. If someone hands him a tip, great. If someone hands both of us a tip, great. If some one hands just me a tip, I either at least split it or some times just hand it straight to him as my token of appreciation for what he did "for me" that day.
