read the following web page. there is a flash movie at the bottom to explain the reason for securing your router. this pertains to broadband routers. many do not change the default login and password. 50% ! do not change the default login and password. wireless routers were considered the only vulnerable hardware. now hardwired routers are just as vulnerable. this is world wide, not just local to US home networks.....flat

    Thanks Flat!!
Technology is great, but there is always some crud that figures it it easier to scam someone out of thier hard earned money than to work for it themselves.

the public has gotten a lot better securing their wireless. My last survey showed less than 10% have a broadcasting unencrypted wireless.

so I guess people are now going after the admin credentials for home routers. it makes sense. Go after the easy targets out there.

some people might wonder why it is important to secure your router. Answer, man in the middle attacks.

oh and a bit of advice...when configuring your router, don't use a name that easily points back at you like your family's last name.

Being in sales I travel a lot. When I can't find a coffee shop with internet access I just drive around the local communities and wait for my wireless signal meter to reach 50%. Then I park the car and do my business.

I'm not hacking into anyone’s computer or anything like that. If you don't change the default settings on your wireless router, it only take me 30 seconds to Utilize the Service your providing for free.

If I were a bad person, it would only taker me another 5 minutes to have complete control of your computer, provided you haven't taken advantage of the latest security software...

I used to hack into my old girlfriends work computer (when we were together) and open a browser window while I had her on the phone. I’d type in www.peeonme.com and ask her what she was surfing for… It would piss the shit out of her… I loved that!~~~

Lee - if it is a Linksys Router try www.linksys.com
if it is a D-Link router then www.dlink.com

Both have a support page. Do a search for password set or reset. Should have default password somewhere easy to find.

    Good Luck

lee use the setup cd that came with your router or type http://192.168.1.1 in the run command box. ......most have 192.168.1.1 as a default address......the password screen is in the options tab. do not answer yes to any changes but the change of login and password only. write it down and tape it to the back of the case or monitor

a router is not a modem. a router can be 4 ports or 6 with one uplink for expansion to a highspeed switch. 1st pick router. 2nd pick modem
