do not forget the state you live in.....the budgets are so ridiculous....the taxes are going to blow up in front of you....for instance:

NEW JERSEY

“It is up to those of us in this room to change the ‘credit card’ culture of New Jersey’s finances,” Gov. Jon S. Corzine (D) told legislators during a somber Jan. 8 speech focusing heavily on the Garden State’s more than $30 billion debt.

Corzine proposed to the Democrat-controlled Legislature a four-pronged plan to confront what he called the “financial emergency” facing the state: freezing state spending at current levels, tying future spending to revenue growth, dramatically increasing tolls on the state’s roads and requiring voters to approve all future debt that doesn’t have a dedicated revenue source.

Acknowledging that the most controversial aspect of his plan is the toll-road component, Corzine called for a 50 percent hike in tolls starting in 2010, with subsequent hikes of up to 50 percent in 2014, 2018 and 2022.

Corzine said his proposal would allow the state to eliminate $16 billion in debt in “one fell swoop” and was better than huge increases in income or gas taxes. He also vowed not to sell or lease state roads to the private sector, calling instead for a non-profit “public benefit corporation” to manage — but not own — the roads.

Facing a projected $14 billion budget deficit, Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger urged lawmakers to "face our budget demons" and approve a constitutional amendment to rein in spending.

The governor, however, said the bleak budget picture should not imperil his proposal to overhaul health care.

“Now, I understand the concern that we have now a deficit, and that our plan is maybe too daring, or too bold, or expensive,” Schwarzenegger said in his Jan. 8 address to the Democrat-controlled Legislature. “But sometimes you have to be daring, because the need is so great.”

The California Assembly approved the governor’s health care package aimed at covering 3 million more uninsured residents, but the Senate has yet to vote on it.

Schwarzenegger said a constitutional amendment that would impose a spending cap would end the “binge and purge” nature of the budget process. The governor proposed a similar idea in 2004, but state lawmakers rejected it. Such a plan would require voters’ approval.

On the education front, the governor announced California would be the first state to use powers under the federal No Child Left Behind education law to intervene in school districts that failed to meet student achievement levels.

Schwarzenegger said he would continue to push for more partnerships between state government and private industry to help fix the state’s crumbling infrastructure. He estimated the state faces $500 billion worth of infrastructure needs in the next 20 years.

RICHMOND - Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced the revised revenue forecast for fiscal years 2008 through 2010, as well as a budget reduction plan designed to deal with the shortfall in state revenue brought on by the national downturn in the economy. The shortfall for the remainder of fiscal year 2008 and fiscal years 2009 and 2010 totals nearly $1.4 billion.

Angry From one of the "Deadbeats" Father's......

...after reading just the first few posts I had to stop. I happen to be one of the lower income brackets, "deadbeats" as was told in the restaurant story. I feel I have to add my say to this. While I may not earn as much as some here, I do support myself (everything in my possesion is paid for except my car, and only owe 700 bucks on it). When my children were young and living at home the only thing I got for them from the government was Medicaid (I don't even have insurance on myself) and didn't have to use it but a couple of times. When one talks about taxes taken from income, 100 bucks may not sound like much to some, but to us "deadbeats" it makes a difference with what we can and cannot buy one week to the next. I don't even know what a vacation is due to cashing it in each year instead of taking the time off. Most of the tax benefits and shelters, I will never be able to claim or use.

DON'T GET ME WRONG, I am not having a pity party here, don't need or want that. I walk with my head up and talk to almost anyone. I wanted to also mention one of those "deadbeat six year olds" who is now 22 and serving all of us as a Medic in the Navy, wearing a Marine uniform (I also served in the Military). When he was 14 he started working for a friend of ours until he graduated High School (with 4 Honors, including being a CNA) and during that time he bought and paid for 2 cars, one an antique, 3 proms, all of his clothes, dates, car parts (he did the repairs), eating out, movies,... you get the idea. Was our tax money wasted on this "deadbeat", maybe so but he is contributing his share, plus, to our society now. I could tell you about "better off" kids who are the same age and have wrecked 2 cars (that Daddy bought), DUI's, not working at all, shoplift, etc.....you get the picture.

I can't control what they do in Washington, IMO, they do for themselves and I just have to live with it. I also know that if I come up short on my budget I can't just tell the boss to add a couple of hundred to my check, but that is done EVERY DAY in D.C. without them even batting an eye. I live within my means and am proud to be an American. OK, I better stop now and let someone else vent but DO look at the pics of the former six year old that I'm going to post....

Have to post pics later, not letting me upload em.

taxes

The last time I checked congress sets tax structure. Check out the purpose of the Ways and Means committee. ASK IF WE CAN AFFORD ANOTHER 100 YEARS OF BUSH'S/MC CAINS WAR. Check out something called ARAMCO. The Americian Arabian Oil Company. The military establishment is getting rich and there is a war on the middle class. Also ask if we can afford the present policies concerning health insurance. Hell I am a doctor and know the system is busted. We got the worlds greatest healthcare technology if you can afford it and access it. One out of seven americians does not have health insurance and the ones without insurance or those paying their own premiums are subsidizing the health insurance industry. I spent most of my professional life involved in the politics of the healthcare system. Believe me if the Americian people truly understood the screwing they got there might be blood in the streets. Bend over folks if you want more of the same. I will be willing to send you a tube of vasoline. Folks there is no free lunch my net worth is well in seven figures and I accept to fix this mess is not going to be without pain. Of course if you can afford a 2 million dollar fish boat the status quo probably is not a concern for you but it should be. All great countries rise all great countries flurish and all great countries fail. Not my words James Mitchner "America".

What do you think on the candidates positions on the relief for foreclosures?

McCain basically beleives that it is not the job of The People to bail out those who made bad financial decisions, be it banks or individuals. I'd have to agree with him.

I don't know Obama's position, but I imagine it is very near in-line with Clinton's position of we need to throw money at them now! I am not in foreclosure, why should I have to shell out money to someone who is?

Taxes taxes taxes... I'm sick of em... A lot of countries do just fine with VAT versus income tax. Much of europe, the only lucrative country on the frican continent South Africa, Australia... Lots of places. I've heard proposals tossed out here for much the same and it gets shuffled off quick... Thats the fairest tax of em all...
The one tx that I have the most contempt for in our world though is the estate tax. My dad was a corporate type. Top tier. They took 71% of his income back in the day. From what was left he had to pay a hefty chunk for state and property taxes. Half of what we pay for gas is tax, 80% of tobbaco or alcohol price is tax. Theres hidden tax on everything from batteries to tires and yes even an excise tax for lures originating in the USA. Makes mores sense to make them outside and bring em in. We get past that. His investments got 33% tax if they made anything. Then 7 cents of every buck is sales taxed if he wants to buy something. The he passed away. As it went to my Mom the bomb hasn't dropped yet but when she passes half of whats left is up in smoke. And when I pass half again will vanish before reaching mini. Thats just not right.
Man works his way to the top of a fortune 500 company. Life time earnings lets say 20 million. To round things off 6 million after just income tax. 5 million after other crap taxes. Spends a million in golden years. Four left. Mom passes becomes two. I pass becomes one. That folks is 95% rate... What part of that is fair?
Feces and Clamydia down the street have thirteen babies. They make a hundred grand. Pay no tax, have free housing, and Uncle sam cuts them another $90 grand just for making babies. Feces dissappears. She gets another $65 grand in SSI. Never a cent out in taxes. She has stamps for food and still free housing. She lives long. Kids get free ride through school. Since it was government money to begin with there is no tax when she passes and leaves a mil and a half behind... See where I'm comming from...
For my whole life I have been the most staunch patriotic American you could ask for but the benefits of living here are becomming less and less. I say no to even one more cent in tax...
